retrieving burned cd mp3 files information

oktoberoktave

Question

hi all,

I need your help. I burnt a mp3 cd about a year ago. I use windows xp. The deal is that I need to find out what the file information is on the cd. Meaning, am I able to retrieve the name of the file, or even the name of the song thats on the cd? Its a bit silly, but I really would like to know who this band is on my burnt cd, and I didnt 'tag' the cd when i had the chance immediately after the cd was burned. So all i have is unknown untagged mp3 files (or .cda extensioned files). For example i believe the information would contain this info: C:my music/Lassigue Bendthaus - Render.mp3 somewhere on the cd. Is there a way that windows can retrieve this information by reading the cd, or another app that can do this job? Hope this was as as descriptive as possible since i did not tag the cd when i had burnt it.

Thanks, Trev

If you have .cda files, it sounds like you didn't burn an mp3 CD, but rather an Audio Disc (the standard kind like commercial CDs). If so, the files were converted from the mp3 format, and lost the tags with that extra info.

If that is the case, there isn't any way to retrive the info from the CD, because it isn't there.

If the files on the cd are cda files not mp3 ext! Put the disc in the drive open Creator Classic , navigate to the drive and Creator will load in the top window. On the tool bar Get CD info from the Gracenote CDDB online Music Data Base. If it is cda disc in the original form as the original disc it should retrieve its data, unless it tells you the server is busy as mine always does.

If you know the name of the band go to Amazon.com and they usually list the songs for the cd's, some cd's have short clips to listen to.

Of course, Gracenote CDDB will come up with the info if it is a CD that is registered with them.

http://www.gracenote.com/music/index_old.html

If you know the name of hte group, and they have commercial CDs, the lists at amazon.com can be useful.

(I use gracenote.com and amazon.com to research stuff I'm considering at eBay)

If it is your own compilation, after it is converted to .cda, the mp3 info is gone.

This may be a long shot but it may just work if the band is "known". Download EvilLyricks, and start it, start playing the music with WMP and the Lyrics should show (if they are in the data base). You will be able to find out who the band is. Alternately, you can type in the song Name and it will give you suggestions on the band.
