Hdmi -> Dvi = Sh*t!

MrDynamite

Question

Hello my dear friends.

Few days ago Ive bought GameCap HD Pro.

First surprise was that I've bought my device with I think 15-20% discount, I had to pay 27% of the device cost becuase my goverment wants that!(Another 25$...)

Second disapointment was that the editing software is slower than SONY VEGAS 10! What the heck?

Third diapointment was that sometimes when you finish recording the program crashes and damages recording(You cant play it or edit, but Youtube gets it fine)

And here comes my 4 surprise which is a problem:

I have monitor with only VGA and DVI inputs, so I was trying to get the cheapest way of recording and changing output(HDMI, component) to DVI or VGA.

Because I heard and tried that you can have HDMI video and RGA audio from component at the same time(On output), Ive went to the shop.

Bought HDMI -> DVI converter(5$) and RGA - RGA(cinch, 2,5$).

But SH*T!! It wont work with Roxio device!

When converter connected is straight to the HDMI output of XBOX it works perfect(Beautifull quality), but when connected to GameCap output HDMI it gives:

-Signal that is connected.

-Black screen.

-Some stripes on screen, sometimes.

What the heck? Can you guys help me?

(I can give back converter and Cinch - Cinch, but I would like to start recording as soon as I can)

The taxes your county charges are an issue between you and your Representatives and have absolutely nothing to do with Roxio ;)

SLOWER than Vegas!!! Not for me... a 45 minute production took 25 minutes in VideoWave and 2 hours in Vega

2 & 3 are most likely related to your PC which you did not list any specs... Provide the info like you see in my signature block below and we should be able to suggest some settings to improve your results.

and for Number 4...

First, I am guessing you mean "RCA" where you typed 'RGA'???

I assume it worked (audio), no reason why it would not.

HDMI to DVI is tricky!!! To begin with there are 5 different DVI connections.

Yours appears to almost work but the RGC Output also introduces another variable that seems to be a problem for your setup. The RGC Output adds HDCP Coding and it looks as though your monitor is not HDCP compliant...

I do not know any way around that one!

Some have claimed that a HDMI Splitter works but then some claim only a Active (powered) one works and other swear that only a Passive one can work

My PC is laptop: Toshiba Satellite A200(It gets hurt, because if I leave it recording for 4-5 hours(Or just on view of GameCap) it gets stuck on 100% of CPU use for about 30 minutes. By this getting really HOT!)

I meant that Vegas is faster in working(Nor rendering). When I open the Roxio Editing soft its so laggy that i cant use it(Windows Movie Maker FOREVER! :D)

About the taxes. Yes I only have a problem for roxio, that they didnt tell me that Im going to have to pay such an amount of money(Was buying some stuff for Xbox from USA and they send it as a "gift" so I didnt have to pay any taxes)

About the Audio

Tested Audio and it works just fine.

_____

About HDMI -> DVI

|From a review of my monitor| : "Clearer graphics, documents, video and even e-mail in a native 1680 x 1050 resolution and DVI with HDCP."

So, I assume that it should work.

Maybe its a problem of that I was using, Component to Roxio, HDMI from roxio and an Adapter from HDMI to DVI(Not a HDMI DVI Cable)

In other post i saw that you were trying something like that and some configurations worked.

PLS try to help me with this. Its very important for me.

Found another problem. When using Component input and HDMI output i cant turn on Xbox 360 1080p resolution.(Gives me blue screen. 480p for a second and back to 720p)

Is it matter of Component in, HDMI out, or something other(maybe my PC specification)

Another thing is. Does the PSP AV component work anyway with roxio, only connected with input no output? (It doesnt for me)

THANK YOU, guru! :)

2 things to investigate for this... One is overheating! Make sure your laptop has cooling, try elivating it off the table by 2 CM or 3 and if you have a small fan, let it blow on the latptop.

Also I would recommend change the render setting in Capture or Edit to SOFTWARE. It is under Tools - Options - Render and always defaults to Hardware.

That would not be Legal and very noticable!

Input to the RGC Device has nothing to do with the Pass Through... As I mentioned, HDMI to DVI has proven troublesome for everyone, not just Roxio... Borrow a Monitor that has HDMI and see what happens ;)

The Xbox will probably work better with HDMI from it to the RGC Device, if you can do that???

Not sure... Do you mean the RCA Composite Video (yellow). If so, NO not with the Pro HD device. It would work with the Standard but no HD possible.

1. What does the change to SOFTWARE do? (It didnt change my render speed, still 1 sec of recording in 30 FPS takes 4-5 seconds to render 1 second)

2. It's not legal. You can say, that Ive bought it in USA. In USA on another person. So "that" person is sending it to me through roxio as a gift. (You need to think about it :P) Only problem is that if the package gets lost its harder to search for it.

3.Im trying to get another HDMI cable for testing.

If I would have an HDMI monitor I wouldnt even ask.(Buying monitor isnt worth it now. I would rather buy a new PC for faster Rendering)

4.No. I have a "COMPONENT" one from PSP(3+2 cables). When I try to connect it i have no signal(I think, gotta test it again)

NEW Question!

How Can I lower the Video File size? Cause I have 1hour long video, but it have 6.5 GB filesize(30FPS). (For example 720p video 1.5 hour long is 2-3 GB(MOVIE!)) (Im uploading it over 900 minutes :P with 100kb/s)

ANOTHER one!

Is there anyway to make a Roxio Editing software close the computer after "Sharing" the video?

File Size is a result of the Quality and the bitrate... That is where you make the change and the price is the Quality... can't have it both ways ;)

No, the software is interactive, not on auto pilot

The change to Software Render was for stability and may result in an improvement in time.

I Have another QUESTION :)

Can you tell me how can I use my Game Cap HD with VirtualDub or other software?(I know how to do it with original GameCap(Had to install other drivers))

I thought you wanted a smaller size :D:lol:

What about my PSP problem?

I asked for more info in Post #4, about it's output signal???

As far as everyone knows, it is proprietary and only works with the Roxio RGC Capture Software...

As far as Editing the mts files, they work in 99.9% of the editors without modification. Of course Sony Vegas is the one exception, but passing them through any converter seems to do the trick! ;)

HDMI to DVI problem solving!

The problem is I think with Roxio output of HDMI. Someone that made this device was drunk so it turned out that connections are wrong.(From what I was researching its cheapest device for recording)

1.In Original Game Capture(Non-HD) there was a problem with Component(Composite) marks, so some people had problems with connecting it all.

2.HDMI is digital, so it is transporting data like USB. No matter which one end gives you what data. HDMI can be used to Internet or shish like that.

2b. DVI is digital, but "ORGANIZED". Its made for video ONLY, so every PIN is for some data and it cannot be changed.

Conclusions:

1. To make it work you need HDMI splitter before Roxio, connected to your console. 1x HDMI from splitter to Roxio and 1xHDMI-DVI to your Monitor.

2. If you want sound Roxio is still outputing it perfectly by Component Audio(RCA, RGA or something like that)

I hate that fact :( It Ruined my life!

Not exactly...

There was never any problem with the Original Game Capture connections! Only the drawing that Roxio used was in error... Follow the color coding or READ the labels on the device and no problem exists...

HDMI is "organized" just like DVI, however there is only ONE pinout!!!

Whereas DVI has 5 possible pinouts

Depends on whether it is:

DVI-A

DVI-I (single)

DVI-I (double)

DVI-D (single)

DVI-D (double)

It may seem like magic to the uninformed but it is quite simple and logical if you have some backgound in wiring or electronics. Granted, not everyone does ;)

single links are same pinned as HDMI (19-19). If you are going to buy Adapter from HDMI to DVI you will always get 19 pinned DVI(Asked in few places), so it isnt a problem.

If you are a Guru of this forum i think that you are working in roxio. Dont ya? :D

If yes, or you can do it. Pls:

-Open the Roxio to see how it looks inside.

-If you have a knowledge, look how its built(How HDMI are connected to motherboard)

I would have done it myself, but I dont have money if it brokes up.

Jim doesn't work for Roxio. You might want to open your own Roxio Game Capture (what you incorrectly call a Roxio) to see what it looks like. :)
