Easy Vhs To Dvd On Windows 8

I managed to install easy vhs to dvd onto my laptop, and it has windows 8, but won't load past the first box that shows up displaying "easy vhs to dvd"

will it even work on windows 8? and how do i fix this problem? thanks

It will not run on Win8...

 

There is an upgrade to EVD 3 or even NXT is you want to raise it a level, and both of those are Win8 Compatible and will run with the Capture US B Device you have

However, I can attest to it working in 32 Bit windows 8, and quite probably 64 bit as well.

I too am running Windows 8, and used Easy VHS to DVD (the first version, from 2008, but any should work) after doing a lot of trial and error.

 

If you have it installed already, uninstall it before continuing.

 

What eventually worked for me was:

 

1. Find the folder with the drivers on the DVD (for me, they were in the folder 'VIDEOCAP_USB')

 

2. Copy the 'VIDEOCAP_USB' folder to the desktop.

 

3. Open a command prompt as an administrator (Click the 'spoiler' button for detailed instructions on how to do that).

Copy the 'VIDEOCAP_USB' folder to the desktop.

 

Hold the Control and Shift keys on your keyboard, and hit the escape key, all at once (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC). If that doesn't open anything, try 'CTRL+ALT+ESC'.

 

In the task manager that opens, click 'more details' if you don't see a 'file' menu at the top of the window. Otherwise, go to step

 

Open the 'File' menu, and click 'Run New Task'.

 

Check the checkbox labeled 'Create this task with administrative privileges', if it isn't already.

 

In the text field, type 'cmd' (without the quotes), and hit enter.

 

 

 

 

4. in the newly opened black box, type the next line.

 

cd "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\VIDEOCAP_USB"

 

Note that the character '\' is a backslash, not a forward slash like one in a website address. Don't type the quotation marks!

 

5. Now, in the same black box, type the next line. Casing does not matter, but be sure to use the quotation marks.

msiexec /i "Video Capture USB.msi"

 

6. This may automatically install the drivers, but if not, click 'next' throughout the setup wizard that appears. If the setup gives you an error, I have had some success in modifying the installer, but since that is pretty advanced compared to this, I will omit it. If you need to know how to do it, just ask. In the meantime, try restarting the computer and doing the above again.

 

8. Install Easy VHS to DVD by going to the DVD and doubleclicking on the 'Setup' program.

 

9. Follow the installation instructions. DON'T start Easy VHS to DVD when you finish, you are not done yet! If you try to get it started now, you might well get an infamous blue screen of death (but 'simplified', because it's windows 8. Think frowny face emoticons and a bit of text saying 'Something went wrong.').

 

10. Download the drivers for the EZCAP DC60+ (Roxio's USB uses the same hardware as the ezcap, but ezcap's drivers are newer) from here:

Or, if you want it from the original source so you know it's less likely to be tampered with, you will need WinRAR or 7-zip to open it, but here it is:

If you have it already, use WinRAR to get the driver from that file. If you don't have it, 7-zip is a free alternative that can open the file.

 

11. If you dowloaded the one that I uploaded (the one you don't need winRAR or 7-zip for), open or run the setup program, and follow it's steps to install the driver. If you get a message saying that you need to provide administrator permission, then give it permission to run.

 

12. Restart your computer after closing everything you were working on. You're done!

 

If that doesn't work for you, there are other things you can try. I'm sure that there's an easier way to do this, but unlike what has been suggested, there's absolutely no reason to pay a ton of money for something you already bought, just to make it and Windows 8 friends (and to let it extract money from your wallet).

 

I hope this helps anyone who can't afford to buy a new version of what he/she already has out a bit!

The newer software comes with a newer device and many improvements over the old one, none of which you will see as you limp along with your hack.

 

I have no problem with this hack although it does open up your system ot unintended consequences

Well, I'm happy with my 'limping' since I have a deinterlacing filter and don't have another $50 to lay down for a third video capture USB. Broke the first (2008) got another in 2011, and not about to waste my money on a third two years later.

And it's not really a hack, it's just the same device driver, updated for windows 8. It may not be Roxio condoned, but I learned a lot cracking open my USB and finding which devices used the chipsets. It was interesting to see that this USB is an exact duplicate of the DC60+.

And as I have said, I know I cannot ask roxio for support after so blatantly voiding my warranty, but at least my device works without shelling out another $50 every two years.

The consequences may be a bit of a problem, but I am not overly worried, since anything I install on my system opens it up, and hosting a apache webserver , SSH server, VNC server, and a minecraft server is much riskier than using a video capture card with unsupported software.

Anyway, I knew what I was getting into when I posted the above, but I will add a warning to my post that it will likely void warranties / is unsupported.
