Can't Burn Imovie Project To Dvd

burnsoc

Question

I'm trying to burn an imovie project to dvd. I imported the file (large size, not 720 or 1080p) and set toast to burn a standard dvd. After it's finished it won't play on my dvd player and is very choppy when viewed on my mac. I spent a lot of time on this video for my son's math project and I don't want to try editing and special effects on a different program. My mac doesn't have iDVD, so I can't burn it that way. I'm all out of ideas and tired of wasting blank dvd's so I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.

Hi I am new so someone else may tell me I am talking complete rubbish.

But from my experience and I have only had my imac a year and used imovie a few times. When you save an imovie file it saves it as an imovie file format. To burn this to a DVD I think yo may need to convert to .avi or a format recognised by your DVD player.

Why it is choppy on your Mac, sorry I have no idea. BUT for some reason when I have burned a flim to a DVD-R and played that DVD on my imac it is not that great quality, however when I play the DVD on my 42 inch flat screen via dvd player it is quite clear. No idea why, maybe it is the imac screen resolution.

Hope this helps a little.

The video should not have been choppy when playing the DVD on the Mac but it also wouldn't look as good as the original video unless you view it in actual size. If you choose actual size that may fix the choppy playback.

A DVD Player does not recognize .avi. It requires the video to be "authored" into a VIDEO_TS folder in which MPEG-2 video is contained in VOB files. None of this is what a computer likes, which is why DVD Player is needed to read these discs.

As for placing an iMovie video into Toast to create a DVD video, select Video in the Toast Media Browser and look in the list of iMovies that appears. Drag what you want from the browser to the main Toast window and proceed.

I'm having the same problem with iPhoto slideshow I created. I'm burning it with the large format, tried display format when I export it and than drag the file into toast as a Mp4 and than burn it as a mpeg-2 format, it asks what region PAL or NTSC I use NTSC. Still does not work in DVD player? Must be missing something, please help. New to Mac and frustrated.
