Gamecube Recording Troubles

Sjdibse

Question

Hello, I've been trying to record my Gamecube using a standard Roxio Game Capture, but the best I can get is the video in black and white. The audio is fine but the picture is what is worrying me. I'm using component cables as has been recommended on this forum, but it's still not working. I'm guessing in the options there is the ability to switch the capture to a standard definition so it won't need the blue and green cables, as all of the video has to go through the yellow.

The Roxio game capture uses HDMI or Component cables.

Maybe if you tell us exactly how you have got everything connected, we can help you. Try to be specific.

What do mean in the last line of your message " as all of the video has to go through the yellow"?.

If I recall, your Gamecube has both component output (Red/Green/Blue connectors) and composite (yellow) output. If you're using the "standard" Game Capture device, you need to use the Composite (yellow) cable, since that's all the standard Game capture device supports. If you connect the green component cable to the composite input, you'll probably get "something" but it'll be pretty grainy, and indeed, just black and white.

If you want to use your component (RGB) connectors, you'd need the Game Capture HD device.

You need to get a set of component (RGB) video cables to go from your GameCube to your Roxio Game Capture. Sorry, I was thinking of the video capture device which has the composite (yellow) input. If the GameCube doesn't have those outputs (RGB), then you can't capture with your device.

I don't think it does.

Guess I'll have to play and record on my Wii. The cable I use to record Xbox also connects to a Wii, so I know it will work. It's just a shame that I'll lose all my saves and have to do everything in one go.
