Blu-Ray Dvd Burn With 5.1 Surround Sound

Question

Hey guys,

I'm currently in a small jam... I'm trying to burn a Blu-ray dvd with 5.1 Dolby surround sound but some how toast 11 keeps encoding it at a 192kbps... I'm exporting out of my Avid Symphony with 5.1 surround sound but Toast will convert the audio files....

Have you guys found any work arounds?

I'm surprised that Toast is doing that. Toast generally does not re-encode an existing .ac3 audio stream. As for workarounds, you might try demuxing the video and audio. Then add just the video. Toast should ask you for a matching audio stream unless it already has the same file name (except for the extension) and is in the same folder as the video. Maybe if Toast doesn't need to demux the streams it won't re-encode the audio.

An extreme workaround would be to choose Save as Disc Image. Make sure Toast's preferences are set not to empty the converted items folder. When the disc image is done start a new project and add the video stream from the converted items folder and Toast should ask you for the matching audio stream (which you'll choose as the 5.1 .ac3 audio file). Then go to Toast's custom encoder settings window and choose Never re-encode. This should cause Toast to only multiplex rather than encode the project.

If your 5.1 audio is in a format other than .ac3 I don't know what to do.
