EMC 9 installed but crashes when executed

Tired Old Man

Question

Installed Creator 9. All it does is CRASH!! Tried bringing up Creator Classic thru programs and it won't even start.

Step 1: Loaded EMC 9 along with EMC 8 -- EMC 9 Crash!

Step2: Removed EMC 9 and EMC 8 - Reinstalled EMC 9 - It Crashed.

Step 3: Checked Registry - 400+ Errors all related to EMC 8.

Step 4: Seems like NONE of the Roxio Software is working...

Step 5: Removed EMC 9 then removed Roxio Program Folder and Roxio Folder in Common.

Step 6: Reloaded EMC 9 - Same result. CRASH!!!

Any suggestions??

Nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks for the fix:)

````````
Regarding the EMC 9 fix for Vista RC1 posted at the top of this post, how exactly do I follow those instructions? Do I somehow enter those lines into a text file and then "run" that or do I go into Regedit and modify each of those lines?
In other words, how do I use the below info to fix the problem on my computer?
Thanks in advance,
Rich
Launches on Vista RC1 (IE7 RC1) with the following registry modifications.
#BEGIN emc9.reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic\Registration\Roxio Easy Media Creator 9]
"RemindForNLaunches"=dword:00000005
"RemindAfter"=dword:00000003
"ShowRegistration"=dword:00000000
"ReminderCount"=dword:00000001
"Last"=dword:45035ef3
#End emc9.reg
This could be my problem too, although my version of IE 7 is release candidate 1. Now I have to decide whether to uninstall 7 or stick with EMC8. How do you like EMC9 compared with 8??
Sandy
I also had IE7 RC1, EMC9 installed but wouldn't open without an error message and close down, tried installing on my laptop,IE7 beta 3, it installed and worked although a little sluggish. I would not have known about the IE7 problem unless I'd searched these messages. Thanks to all members for sharing info.
I've installed EMC9 upgrade download (and content download), apparently successfully, after uninstalling IE 7 RC1 and EMC8 (including thorough registry clean up for Roxio and Sonic).
I opened each app and those that needed registering did so successfuly. The components I've used do far worked OK and I had no problems using my EMC8 projects in Videowave, My DVD and label creator. Creator classic burnt a DVD without problems. I haven't tried anything very demanding as yet.
I did find one unexpected behaviour:
I use the Office XP toolbar, and have shortcuts on that to open various folders (system tools, admin tools). After installing EMC9, clicking on one of the folder shortcuts did not open the folder as expected, instead it opened the 'Move or rename audio files'component of EMC9. Yet the same shortcuts dragged to the desktop functioned normally!
I finally traced this to the context menu extension that EMC9 adds to the folders key. Deleting the registry entry
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\RXDCExtSvr]
@="{0FB82570-BB2D-23D3-8D3B-AC2F34F1FA3C}"
solved the problem (it also removes the context menu item from audio files, for which it is presumably intended, but I don't miss it). It only seemed to affect some folders, but having found a solution that worked for me, I haven't analyzed it thoroughly.
I have also done the DivX fix posted by MTolman, without problems.
Finally, having seen that at least Mesteele had no problems after reinstalling IE7 RC1, I did that also and I can confirm that so far I've not had problems with EMC9 and IE 7 RC1. It does appear that the problems only occur for the registrations, but once the EMC9 apps have been registered while using IE6, IE7 and EMC9 work fine together. I have applied the IE6 useragent string fix that I posted about earlier in this thread (I need it for some web sites).
qwilk - besides registration, there are a few more activations. Some get them and some don't which is strange. When you launch Videowave, MyDVD or CinePlayer several times, you should get an MPEG 2 activation. They collect no data other than counting how many use it. You may also get an activation/registration for Backup MyPC and Digital Media Experience. I believe that's all that I counted.
I have had the same problem with EMC 9.0 crashing after the install with memory errors in Windows XP SP-2. I tried all suggestions above to no avail. I have found out that I have upgraded my Microsoft Interent Explorer from version 6.0 to 7 RC1 which was causiing my problems and also a friends with EMC 9 crashing with memory errors evrytime the program is started. EMC 9 would not run when IE 7 RC1 was installed in my system. When I removed IE 7 from my Add remove programs in control panel and Windows XP returned IE 7 back to 6, everyting is now working fine. It looks like EMC 9 is incompatable with Interent Explorer 7 RC1, it must use IE for it's home screen etc... ROXIO, you might want to pin this problem to the top of the page. I hope this helps others...Richard
It's already a pinned item under General Issues!
If i get the new 9.0 will the transitions be in color there???
No, they are not in color. Same as they are in V8.
If you have V8, launch the HOME app and you should get the offer for V9 on the Home page. If you have V7, you will probably have to wait until Tuesday and call Customer Service to order by phone. Monday is a holiday here, but I have no idea where Customer Service is located.
You aren't first to try out IE7 beta. :) Perhaps we can get a KB or pinned item on IE beta conflict.
I will work with John and have someting pinned soon...
Everyone here seems to have mixed feelings about EMC 9.0. Here is my experience is with EMC 9.0 on both Windows XP SP2 and Widnows Vista (Pre-RC1 - 5536) x86.
First on the Windows XP SP2 the install asked if I will like to uninstall previous components of EMC 8.0. I answered "yes" and continued with the installation which went with out any problems. Reboot was required and was done so. EMC 9.0 ran the first time and only the first time. Did DVD to SD conversion which took over ten hours (this needs to be optimized). I got the same results on Widnows Vista (Pre-RC1 - 5536) x86, it ran the frist time and only the frist time.
Ok with that said I would like to add that I went as far as a fresh build of both operating systems with worse results. EMC 9.0 crashes all together. Both Widnows XP SP2 and Widnows Vista (Pre-RC1 - 5536) x86 on running on seperate identical hardware. Literaly the same hardware. Bought from the same vendor on the same day.
I proceeded then to install just basic components one at a time only to get the same results with each. EMC 9.0 clearly needs some more work and is not ready for prime time. Also is there a way to not install Drag-to-Disc. I know that you can uninstall it via Add/Remove but that is a pain if I care not to use it.
Hardware Platform:
Intel DP965LT
3.4Ghz (1mb)
2048Mb
80 WD 10,000 HD
Intel 6.1 HD Audio
ATI V3100 256Mb
Software provided by MSDN subscription, so no hacked versions to muck it up.
Thanks,
Niles
"Last"=dword:45035ef3
Works also for me using VISTA RC1. Now all components I tested right now (which all crashed before) are running. THX for this "hack".
Update: some components (as stated in the release notes) must be updated (in future) to be fully compatible e.g. video editing does not work and also DVD playback seems to crash. But main parts ISO CD emulator, Creator Classic ... are working for me.
I kept having problems when I tried starting EMC9 the first time. I finally found that my problem was that I had Internet Explorer 7 beta installed. I uninstalled it, which reverted back to version 6. I was able to open EMC9 and go thru the registration process that comes up the first time you use the new EMC9, then every thing worked fine. I even reinstalled IE7 beta and everything still works. Seems it just had to go through the registration process the first time.
This could be my problem too, although my version of IE 7 is release candidate 1. Now I have to decide whether to uninstall 7 or stick with EMC8. How do you like EMC9 compared with 8??
I haven't used EMC9 yet......I dont like a download version cause i need to put it on 3 computers & need a disk. I can tell u that the EMC8 version doesn't have the color transitions that 7.5 has. 7.5 was the best version if u ask me! 8.0 is a joke! Bad software!
I never had EMC 8 installed on my system and when I installed EMC 9 I get nothing but crashes. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still get nothing but crashes. I uninstalled and installed on another computer (which also never had EMC 8 installed) and it too does nothing but crash. There is obviously a problem with EMC 9 as a number of other people are having the same problem. To top it off, Roxio has yet to reply to multiple emails sent to tech support. If I can't even load EMC 9 it is useless to me and a waste of my money. How can I get a refund for this POS product?
Not one single mention of any troubleshooting. No comments in reference to IE 7 compatibility. I have to assume you are running IE 7 and at the same time did not read the rest of this thread.
Always something wrong with the computer!! You always profess that! Cannot something be flawed with the software?? Why was 9.0 put out so shortly after (2) versions of the 8.0 software??
These people have top of the line machines & surely over 2 million users cant be wrong!
Ck system requirements, upgrade video & sound cards?? All that is jibberish & passification!
And where did you get that info that windows xp had over 3,000 flaws in it when they released it??
I have contradictory documents to that effect.........
I should assume that the computer and everything else on it are flawless, yet our software is just the exact opposite? Simple laws of probability say otherwise.
You will see a checkbox somewhere below [Require server verification (https) for all sites] that allows you not to specify https. Just uncheck that box, and you will be able to use http on the trusted zones list.
_____________-
I was having problems with roxio 7 and IE7Beta. The problem is that the titles don't show up when adding titles in dvd builder. I uninstalled IE 7beta after reading all the posts and everything and dvd bulder worked fine again. (but I could not surf the web with the IE 6 that was left behind) I tried to download IE 6 from microsoft but it kept saying I had the latest version and would not let me. I installed Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1 for Windows XP SP2. and now dvd builder is having the same problem with no titles. I was thinking about upgrading to Roxio 9 but it looks like the same problem exists.
I tried doing the tools \ internet options \ trusted sites but it wanted an https not an http. So I could not do that nor do I know whether that would fix my problem. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks
There are quite a few people who are in the same boat as you Old Man. I know from my own machine that I can not have 9 co-existing with 8 in anyway. The only way I got 9 working was to eliminate 8 completely from my system. These are the following steps that will clean out your system.
Try Uninstalling 8 and 9 and then do the follow:
1. Running the windows clean up utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;290301
2. run -> regedit -> hit F3 and search Roxio and delete every single entry you find in there
3. same thing, but search for sonic
4. hunt down the folders in your system by going to windows search - Roxio
5. same thing but with sonic
6. install 9 by itself
