Roxio Nxt Main Menu And Shortcut Missing

stargazer72460

Question

I have two computers and both are running Windows 8 Pro (with Media Center). The desktop computer has Roxio NXT on it and everything works fine on it. The laptop was converted to Windows 8 and then I installed Roxio NXT. The installation went okay but I do not have a desktop icon and if I look in the list of programs there doesn't seem to be one that displays the main menu. The only programs that are listed are the individual programs that are within Roxio NXT and are usually displayed in a menu (like the one on my desktop computer). I thought it was an installation problem so I completely uninstalled the program, restarted the computer and tried again. Both times I choose the complete installation.

Then you have a faulty install...

Let's jump to the end ~ this is sort of the untimate install process, if it doesn't work, nothing will

Of course you do have to follow the instructions to the letter, but you seem pretty sharp so I doubt that will be a problem ;)

Download and install the
Uninstaller. Then run it in
Moderate Mode
to remove any traces of Roxio.

Create a New User Account with Administrator Privileges.

Turn OFF any A/V & Firewall.

Reboot and log on to that new account.

Copy your entire disc to a new folder on your HDD.

In that new folder, right click on Setup.exe and select Properties.

Under the Compatibility tab, make sure
nothing
is checked!

Right click Setup.exe and select Open.

Allow it to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio not Windows)

Use the Default Locations!

I followed your instructions and I get the same result. I have no desktop icon and no startup menu. I did notice something on this install. After it had finished, it informed me that this is a multi-part install and that I had the option of Continuing with the next part of the install or Restarting the computer. The odd thing about this is that I got the basic version of Creator NXT (not the Pro version), the basic version only has one part. My original download only consisted of 3 files, the main install file, the content file, and paint shop pro. Could I have got the wrong file sent to me? Maybe I got the first half of the Pro install instead of the basic version.

Could you list the full filenames of your downloaded files?

Did you buy the Creator NXT basic for both the desktop and the laptop?

I did not have these problems when I installed Creator NXT on my desktop computer in January 3013. I just got this laptop and originally had planned on using the same installation that I had put on my desktop computer, but I ran into the "rolling back" issue and I exceeded the number of times that I could use the registration code. Since the one that I purchased in January 2013 was not under warranty, I thought that I could not get "free" support and I just decided to purchase a new upgrade for the laptop. I thought that since I purchased an upgrade, I would need to put an older copy of Roxio on the laptop prior to the upgrade. I had an old copy of Media Creator 9, which I installed on the laptop first and then installed the Creator NXT upgrade. Could this be my problem?
