Can You Make A Longer Running Dvd Beyond Around 2 Hours, Or Do You Always Have To Split?

ServantBC

Question

Hey,

I can't seem to find anything in their pdf files or instructions telling me how to make a DVD that is longer than their standard 2 hours. Is there some "quality" area I'm missing where I can change the DVD burn to a long play or a super long play. My previous one could make 6 hour DVDs without splitting them into 3 discs. Thanks.

Thanks. I've never bought an 8.5 Gb disc. I had a DVD/VHS player that would transfer years ago and I could change the burn quality to burn EP, LP, and ELP (which was 6 hours). Because I'm transferring from old VHS tapes the quality isn't spectacular and I was hoping this program could change to allow for longer burns on a 4.7 Gb disc.

??? From what I have seen, ELP (3 hours) is of such low quality, I won't watch it

In Roxio it is defined as 352 X 240 & 3 Mbps. Note that a VHS Tape is about 333 X 480!!!

I don't know of anything that can put 6 hours on a 4.7 GB DVD??? I suppose if you drop the mbps to 1.5 or lower but many DVD Players have trouble reading 3 mbps so I can't see going below that!

Also keep in mind that EVD3 has the ability to Split projects over multiple DVD's ;)

This may be a penny wise and pound foolish suggestion. If you have the software and if you have a DVD player that will play the format, consider DivX (more info).. You can get a lot of video on one disc. You would convert the files from Easy to DivX. I believe that you can save the files from Easy as mpg2 files. It may cost more to do that than to just use several discs.

How many VHS tapes are you capturing and what is the extra cost for the discs - a couple of bucks?

Thanks guys. Basically, I recorded old cartoons and shows from the 80's and 90's with the commercials. Some I've been able to find on DVD, like Galaxy Rangers, Transformers, G.I. Joe and X-Men. Some, like Spiderman and A&E documentaries are not released in seasons or decent sets (more than a few episodes). But I want to share them with my kids. I taped them on VHS tapes in SLP so each tape was 6 hours. And it's nice to have a DVD in the van I don't have to change but just keeps going and going for those long trips. Anyways, I will look again into splitting them. The quality is VHS - too low for me to watch on my good tv without twitching involuntarily. But on the kids tv, which is a 20" tube or the van tv which is 7" it is fine and a great way to share with them my childhood. Especially the commercials, which are pricelessly funny now.
