Mp4 To Dvd Format

I have tried converting an MP4 movie into a DVD format and have come up against 2 problems.

1) Although the movie in question is less than 2 hours long the convert is taking 6 hours?

2( After the conversion is done the movie will play in a DVD but there is no sound?

 

Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening - I have converted .mov's successfully many times and they generally take a lot less time and work every time?

Can't help with the time it takes, but a lack of audio is usually fixed by installing the perian codec at perian.org. You'll need to go through the 6 hours again. You can make a test of just a minute or so to be sure it's working. Choose Save as Disc Image and when it is done mount the .toast file using the Mount Image File command in the Toast Utilities menu to preview it using DVD Player.

Not necessarily. One could re-use the already converted DVD-compliant video and save about 90% of the conversion time.

Although describing how to do that might be a bit complex, if you haven't done such things before.

If you convert over night (i.e. AFK), then doing it all over might be easier anyway.

You don't say what the resolution (pixel dimensions) is of the source video. If it already is something x 480 then it shouldn't take a long time to convert. But if it is something else then Toast's encoder is needing to rescale the video. As for the need to encode again, if I'm correct that the original video's audio was mp3 then it needs to be converted to AC3 or PCM for the video DVD. The number of steps that is required to create separate mpeg 2 video and AC3 (or PCM) audio streams and then have Toast multiplex them into a video DVD makes it a lot easier just to start over after the perian codec is installed. As I mentioned, trim the source video to about a minute in length and run a test to make sure that installing perian resolves the lack of audio.

There are many different formats, that my DVD at home reads anyway.

 

i have a converter im using at the moment. I'm burning a DVD in MPEG2 format and one as an ISO file. hopefully one of them works!
