That error can have anyone of several meanings. To do the quickest troubleshooting, instead of burning directly to a disc, burn (encode) to an ISO file. If that fails, there is something in the project that the program doesn't like.

If the ISO completes, download the free VLC Video Player. That program will play the ISO file just as if it is a disc. If it plays, then the ISo is OK; if not, back to looking at the project.

If VLC plays the ISo file, you can use the program to burn (not copy) the ISo file to a disc.

One last question - are you working with high definition files or standard definition files?

Please come back and let us know what happens.

EDIT: Are these still the same problems you have had in the past? Did you follow any of the suggestions made back in November and after?

I am working with avchd files from a sony hdr-xr200 camera. I burned to ISO and downloaded the VLC player. I could get it to play but couldn't find how to burn to disc from the player.

I was able to copy the ISO file to disc using Creator 2009 (the program I do the editing in). It worked successfully and the DVD will play back in the player. I will try that on the other projects in the morning. They are short seven minute videos.

This is a different problem than the ones encountered in the past. I have followed all the recommendations for the past problems and none of them fixed the errors. I have but don't use NXT because I cannot burn the edited files. I still get errors occasionally while burning with 2009 but if I close MyDVD and reopen, it usually works fine. If I leave the program open for a couple hours, it crashes and I have to close using the task manager.

I like how quickly the projects render and burn so I have stuck with 2009 and put up with the occasional frustrations.

This "failed to start image writing operation" is a recent error message and am hoping to find a fix. I was beginning to wonder if it might be a hardware problem with the burner but the ISO file burned just fine.

Thanks for the help.
