The only way I would suggest you try is to use MyDVD (Create DVD or whatever name is in your version) and select to make a Video CD (VCD). MPEG 1 is the format used in VCD which is pretty much obsolete in the US but is still used in some countries. Add the mpg2 (or VOB files) from the DVD video to MyDVD and output to an ISO file or Folder Set when you select to burn. You should be able to find and extract the mpeg-1 files from where ever you select to out the ISO ot Folders to. Remember that the amount of video allowed on a VCD is pretty short so you may run into issues. I tried this on one of my high definition videos and the program hung. I don't have time for it to continue.

If you don't mind, since this is such an unusual request, why do you want to do it? Will the VCD be enough or do you really want the video file?

Tried MyDVD but couldn't get it to do what I needed. I can't have the menus with music, etc., because it's to be played in court and they don't like that type of thing. It won't let me delete it. It also is giving me an issue about letting me burn to my hard drive instead of a disk. I have three videos to convert and one is about an hour and 15 minutes in length, so that could be a problem too I guess. If I just convert to MPEG-2 and change the file extension to mpeg would that work or am I asking for trouble? The program info for Creator 2010 says it can convert to MPEG-1 but I don't see it in the conversion area.

You can easily create a DVD without menus by selecting DVD, no menus at the start of a New project.

What is the source of your original video? A file or a DVD?

Do you want a video file or a DVD?

Do you want a video file or a DVD? The end product should be an MPEG-1 video, probably on a DVD due to size. One is over an hour.

You only answered part of my questions!

How is the end product to be played? On a DVD player or via computer?

Why do you insist on mpeg1 an almost obsolete, low quality format?

The end product would most likely be played on a computer. And trust me, I don't insist on this format, the makers of the video/text synchronization software do. It has something to do with the codecs used on meg2/4 etc. not being compatible. My source right now is a DVD video VOB file.

I have no idea what "the codecs used on meg2/4 etc. not being compatible" means.

I don't know if C2010 can even create a mpeg1 file. I am using C2012 and it does not seem to have an option to create a mpeg1 file.

What is the "video/text synchronization software" you are referring to?

Why don;t you like the answer I gave you in my first reply. Did you need more detail? No one else seems to have any better idea.

You may want to Google for other software. Try something like "Any Video Converter" to convert the VOB (AKA mpg2 file) to mpg1.

The documentation says it can output to MPEG-1 but I can't see how to do it. The synch is used in legal/court applications to display both the video of a witness testifying and the transcript of their testimony simultaneously. The vendors who provide the synch software require MPEG-1 video. Any suggestions on another program that would convert video VOB files to MPEG-1?

Steve suggested one in the post above yours. "Any Video Converter" is what he suggested, but there are many out there.

Aside: It might be time for whoever is in charge of purchasing, to find a vendor who has software that fits the real world.
