Jolafson's Topic - Dvd Menu Backgrounds

jolafson

Question

I have been using Easy Media Creator 10 since it was released. I have updated it to version 10.1. I have never had any problems burning MyDVD projects to disk or .iso files untill recently. I don't know what changed , but now after burning, all I see when I play disk are the Titles and Buttons - the background is black. It does not matter which Menu Theme I select, the result is the same. Everything looks fine in Preview mode in MyDVD. I have uninstalled and reinstalled EMC 10. I know this is an old thread, but it directly applies to me. Has anyone come up with a definite cause and solution? Thanks.

Jerry

Did you burn to the Image file as suggested?

Please post your computer specs and driver information using these instructions (link)

When was the last time youdid maintenance on your computer- get rid of programs you not longer use, get rid of junk and temp files and defrag? Here are some tools.

Did you change or update your operating system? Some Windows updates cause issues.

DxDiag_HP8330.txt

Yes I have tried burning to Image as well as directly to DVD.

I do regular maintenance on computer removing temp files, etc. I also keep up with all Windows updates. Latest ones were installed last week.

I am attaching a file documenting my system specs as requested. Hope this helps.

Here is some additional information. Whenever I create a MyDVD project (dmsd) and include a file directly from Videowave or a video file that I have output from Videowave (usually a mpeg 2 file), then select a Menu Theme different from the default and try to burn the project to disk or an iso file, it usually fails the burn. Not only that, but the process permanently corrupts the Theme I used so if I go to create another DVD project, the theme background is black. The only way back is to do a total uninstall of EMC 10. Copy and paste the following link for instructions on a complete uninstall:

http://corel.force.com/index/articles/en_US/Master_Article/Complete-Uninstall-of-Creator-2009-and-2010-Windows-Vista-and-7

And then to a reinstall. Does anyone know where EMC stores the Menu Themes used in a project or how to restore the themes without a complete reinstall?

This problem has occurred on two PC's, one running Vista and the other Windows 7.

Easy Media Creator 10 is not compatible with W7 (look here); EMC 10 should be compatible with Vista.

Also read this about compatibility with other programs and this about registry cleaners. Perhaps one of them is the cause of your problem.

Your computer looks OK. Are you installing the program to your system drive?

Perhaps others have more ideas.

Thanks for the tips. Sorry it took me a while to respond, but I am not getting notified of replies to my posts. Yes, I know technically that EMC 10.1 is not supported under Win 7, however, the problems I am having with Menu Styles getting corrupted and burns failing is installed on a Vista 32-bit system. And it is installed on my system C: drive. Until I find something better (or upgrade to NXT), I will produce my productions with Videowave and the output the production to a mpeg or wav file. Then I can use a different DVD creator (even Windows DVD Maker works) to burn the project to a DVD.

Have you had any experience with NXT? Is it worth the $70 upgrade fee? Thanks again.

I like the old Creator 2012 better. If you are going to W8, then NXT is really the only choice. I know a lot of people who use "other" burning software. If you do the ISO thing, try IMGBurn.. It is free and has a lot of options.

Nxt Pro has a lot of good programs and, if you don't have a photo editor, then the included PaintShop Pro is good.

I have no plans to go to Win 8 and I already use IMGBurn to burn iso files. My problem is finding a decent program that will allow me to take the video file I create from Videowave, add some nice menus to it and then burn it or save it as an iso file. So far I have tried several shareware programs that claim to create a DVD with menus, but they are all quite inadequate. I don't really need another photo editor since I already have Photoshop Elements. I'll continue to search because I really like the interface and functionality of Videowave and based on my tests, Videowave runs fine under Win 7.

Thought I better update this topic so it can be closed. I never found a solution to the problem of black backgrounds on some MyDVD menus when burning to a DVD (or an image file). Only certain menu styles were affected, but it was still unacceptable. In some cases, switching to Software rendering in Tools/Options in MyDVD would solve the problem, but not always.

My solution - upgrade to Creator NXT. NXT has problems of its own, but at least I can create a DVD and burn it to a disk or image file with the menus intact.

If someone wants to close this topic, be my guest.

As I said in the previous post...the only solution that works is to upgrade to Creator NXT. I could not find a method or procedures that would prevent improper rendering of a DVD project. The administrator can close this topic.
