Random Drop Of Photos In Slideshow

Gil82

Question

I am having precisely the same problem. Random "blackout" of 1 to 2 dozen pics in a 33 minute VideoWave production. I have tried everything my limited consumer-skills permit, even using several different brands and types of DVDs to burn to, both R and RW. Very disappointing to hear that this has been a recurring problem. Software is fairly useless for creating DVD productions if the burn failure is so frequent throughout the production. Has anyone solved the problem?

Since you have not supplied much information on what you did it is hard to make suggestion.

Have you tried to first burn to a video folder set or the image file? Then play those using a software player like VLC and they play Ok then you can burn those to the DVD..

My friend, that's a bit technical for me. I don't think one should have to be a computer guru to use a product that is sold to the general public. It should be user friendly. I am 73 years old, doing my best to use products that came along long after this old dog could be taught new tricks. But I still know a product that doesn't perform when I see it. When I buy a car, I don't expect to have to be a mechanic to use it in the normal course of the day as it is meant to be used. I have tried burning via MyDVD. The preview is perfect, as is the production itself in videowave. Then the finished product stinks. You will have to be a little more down to my level if your suggestion will be actually helpful. Or, if you just want to impress with your technical knowledge, without really helping a customer, you can just do that. You might be able to tell that I am frustrated. Many, many wasted hours upon hours trying to use a product that I paid good retirement money for.

As I re-read it, sounds like you're suggesting not to burn it to a DVD at all, but put it somewhere else on your computer and play it on your computer; or on a tv via streaming. Or something else which is not a dvd. I may be way off base, but if that's what you're suggesting as a "fix," you're basically saying not to burn a DVD. That's not a fix. That's saying I can't use the product as it was advertised, namely, to make DVDs. Help me out here, or someone give me my money back.

Gil82,

May I offer you some 'down to your level' suggestions?

Firstly, it's considered very bad manners to hijack someone else's topic on this type of user board. I understand that you're new to such things, so this is a suggestion rather than a telling-off. Your messages have been shifted off other peoples' topics and into this one, which is your topic, and where we'll try to help you.

Second, this board is manned in their own time by volunteers interested in the subjects, and not company staff. If the advice the volunteers give is over your head, please tell them so nicely, and ask for simpler directions. Snapping at them gives the impression that you're a bad-tempered person, which I'm hopeful you're not, and doesn't encourage them to spend much more time on you. Volunteers can't refund your money if you can't operate the software, but will try to help you operate it.

Thanks for reading this, and I'm glad we're now all on the same page. Now to your actual problem:

You read MyGuggi's suggestion wrongly. The making of a slideshow on a DVD is done in two very distinct phases - making or rendering the slideshow, and burning it to disc. Since these processes can be occurring simultaneously, he was suggesting that you separate the two phases to check where your problem was occurring.

First part is to generate the slideshow and 'burn' it to a disc image, so you can check if it was rendered without error. You can play the image with other software to check it. Providing the slideshow is okay, you can then burn the image to disc with Creator.

If you need help burning your slideshow to an image, or using the VLC player to view it before burning to disc, please ask here and one of us will be along to help you.

Thanks very much,

Brendon

Perhaps some images will help. (BTW, age is not a factor - I'm within a year of yours and others are as old or older). Make sure you are using Edit Video -Advanced to do your slide show. You'll have more functionality . Other "Assistants" will work but they are set to do thinks more automatically.

First, karri has made a series of videos on how to use Edit Video Advanced - AKA Video Wave. It would be of benefit to look at them. They are short and to the point. There are several addressing various aspects of the program. Look here (link)

Once you have your slide show done and have saved it, close Video Wave and open Create DVD (MYDVD). Select your menu and add the projects you want to include - don't go over one hour of video. Look at project settings and make sure that you have select high quality. Anything else will compress the video so that it looks really bad.

At this point I want to make sure that you understand the difference in a the quality of a photo vs the quality of a video on a DVD. Unless you are burning a high definition video (AVCHD or blu ray) the video will be the standard definition. In the US that is 720 by 480 lines of resolution. That was the quality of the old analog TV sets. It is not the quality of todays High definition TV. Post back if you want more informaiton on high definition video discs.

Once you open MyDVD, go to the top menus and select File and in the drop down, select Project Properties and set your up like this image. Note, if you select archive photos, the original pictures will be saved on the disc but they will take up time and space.

Project Settings:

Close that dialog box and go back to your project Look down to the right and make sure that the setting there is still High Quality. There is also the burn icon. Click on that and another dialog box will open. This is the one you were asking about :

Once you have the Image (ISO file) you can preview it in the free VLC program. If there are no missing pictures, you can burn the ISO to a disc using the application on the Home page. - Burn Disc Image.

By the way, Roxio has but several good tutorials under the "Learning Center" tab, there is one on Image files. If in doubt go with what we tall you from our experience.

You didn't provide information on your computer. We'll assume it meets or exceeds the minimum requirements. If you are unsure, please post this information in your next post. dxdiag. Follow the instructions; do not post the entire contents of what you see; attach the text file from it. Sometimes hardware is the problem. The information )no personal information is included) will help us determine if some hardware updates are required. Do you do regular maintenance on your computer -- get rid of junk and tmp files, defrag, etc? There are some excellent free tools to kep your computer up to good working condition.

Frustration is a bitch isn't it?;)

ROXIO can not handle photos that are large quality pictures. Check if you have >5 MByte JPG. most good cameras produce 6-10 Mbytes but ROXIO has problems. Reduce your picture sizes to 1920 wide and ROXIO will thereafter be happy.

When I follow this process and try to burn to disc image file, I get the message "8004520c Error While Encoding Movie 1." As you might expect, I have no idea what that means.

This is the main reaso9n to get that error. You can also read this (link).

Where is the information on your computer.? I took a lot of time to reply to your problem and to attach the images and videos. Why do you think I did that for the fun of it? Now I'm more angry then you were when you posted above not knowing about an ISO file. We are users on this forum. Contact Roxio if you want to get your money back. or really take your time to read and digest what I wrote. Be careful or people will start calling you an old codger ! :P
