MYDVD 8 DVD Video Quality

Hi Guys.

 

I purchased ROXIO EMC 8 from Best Buy a couple weeks ago... I am unfortunately fuming that I spent $100 (full retail price) when there will EMC9 out in less than 2 weeks....GRRR on Roxio and Best Buy. As someone else noted here B.B. only allows you to exchange CD software programs within 30 days.... retarded. But, Roxio had given me too many headaches in the past, and so I thought I'd go with Roxio.

 

Anyway, I have 5 questions/issues. If someone can answer them as I have them numbered that would be great.

 

1. Why is that in MyDVD when I go to burn, that (unlike Nero), there's no write speed option. I did just buy a new external DVD burner (LG GSA-E10L 16x)... I am assuming it is burning at max, but I don't know this. The other retarded thing is that unlike when copying a DVD with EMC, in MyDVD it does'nt even give you a time estimation.

 

2. If my DVD can burn at 16x, and if the DVD I bought says 16x max, why is it that when I was it then when I made an image onto my hard drive and then transferd that onto my CD it was averaging only about 6-8x (it fluctuated but rarely went over 10x).

 

3. Although my videos are usually in XVID format, I recently burnt a clip the other night (it was about 1.3G) and it was MPEG-2 (DVD). I figured this would of course make the video in my DVD burn much quicker. It did, it took maybe 15 minutes... but the quality in some spots was definitely more pixelated than the actual version on my hard drive...

I guess Roxio has its own DVD encoder? Needless to say, like I said, the actual MPEG-2 in the original file turned out kinda crappy anyway... see the picture below (100% not compresseD)

 

 

4. What is the BEST MPEG-2 DVD (I guess decodeR?) that is, that I could use to make clips from my TV/VCR using my ATI USB 2.0 External TV Tuner Card. Maybe if I had that in super hi quality, whatever Roxio does to it it would be unnoticeable.

 

5. I was burning a bunch of video clips onto one DVD (with chapters, etc.) - they were in DivX (AVI) format and all of them totaled about 2 GB...yet when they were all added Roxio showed on the bottom they were just under 4GB -- is this because that's what it will be when Roxio puts them into DVD format?

If I right click on the file and go to the "summary" tab, it's all blank...where it would usually say whatever the codec is. In addition, when I open the file in WMP 10 it has a red exclamation mark by the title and always says "error downloading codec", but then within a few seconds plays the file fine.

 

I figured having the MPEG-2 file instead of AVI (XVID) this would of course make the video burn much quicker. I had the same problem a couple of days ago so I decidet to call the manufacturer of my burner. Some of my settings where wrong. After changing those everying worked fine. Hope that helps
