No Picture And No Signal

Sharpee1988

Question

Hi. I recieved my Roxio HD Pro Device today and was excited all up until I tried to use it......

I am using this device to record PC gaming (or atleasy trying to).

Basically this is my setup.

1. HDMI Cable from PC to Roxio Device INPUT.

2. HDMI Cable from Roxio Device OUTPUT to my PC Monitor.

3. Monitor selected HDMI as input.

4. USB Cable plugged in to Laptop in which I will be using to record.

5. All needed software installed which was included with the device. No need for the 1.1 Patch as it stated the version is already the latest.

After these steps I then see all the lights on the device as I should ie. the blue arrown lights up and the HDMI light is selected.

This is where the problems kick in.

I have no signal on my PC Monitor but the weird thing is when I unplug the USB cable from the laptop the PC Monitor then goes in to sleep mode so this shows the device must pick up the connection between the device and monitor.

The software shows there is no signal in red writing. But I made sure HDMI was selected in the drop down menu and that the device is detected in the software too. All clear there.

Weirdly I have had it working twice and when I came to test it upon opening a program that uses admin rights on my PC, UAC asked the usual question and upon clicking YES the screen went blank and shows nothing, not even in the preview on the software.

Ever since these attempts it has not worked since and has gone back to the no signal issues stated above.

I have tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling but this did nothing. I also tried new HDMI cable and again this did nothing.

I am running windows 8 on both my PC and my Laptop but I did install windows 7 on my PC to see if that would work too but again this did not work either.

I am running out of ideas now and given the cost of the device I expect it to work in the way it is described.

Thanks, I hope I have given enough details.

Tes just one hdmi in my graphics card. As stated i have one on board my motherboard but tests fail on that too.

The ports next to the hdmi on my card are display ports for a feature called eyefinity by ati so you can have multiple screens attached.

The other port is a dvi which is standard. The inly other test i was going to try would be to get a dvi to hdmi adapter and see if it will run it via the dvi on the card to hdmi on my monitor.

Long shot but worth a dabble before i send it back.

Yes I will also try that. The issue I have narrowed it down to the communication between the GPU on my PC and the Roxio Device for some reason even though HDMI is so simple.

Does the same on my TV too you see. I have tested multiple outputs ;)

Weirdly both the TV and monitor know something is there as the channels are highlighted and the lights are on the monitor to show its on.

Yet there is just no data getting to it.

I don't see how that would make any difference, the same can happen from other sources as well ;)

But that does seem to me the only factor in this...

You could remove your ATI and go with the on-board graphics to test that theory???

...shouldn't be an issue...

I have not tried it exactly the way you have yours setup...

I dabbled in using the Same PC to Play and Capture with but was not completly successful with that. I could SEE everything but capture didn't work out right and I have not had the time to get back and try it again :(

Are there 2 HDMI outputs from that card? I see One listed but what is that other one beside it???

After all my ranting I have come to the conclusion its a compatability issue with my graphics card.

The device works on other things such as BD player on different screens.

I have tried my Monitor and my HD TV and it works with the BD player fine no hitch on both screens.

As soon as I plug it in to my graphics cards HDMI I have never ending issues.

Does it matter that I have 2 HDMI ports on my PC? I have the graphics card HDMI and an on board HDMI. I have tried both but the graphics card takes over any on board stuff.

No joy either way.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 7950 Graphics card so one of the lates on the market. Would this be an issue?

Thanks.

It works for others, Look at YouTube!

What is with all this UAC stuff, I think the vast majority turn it OFF!

And now I am back to square 1...... Black screen no signal on software.

I guess this product just isnt able to support PC gamers very well.

Not to mention the fact to just see my monitor when I do general PC stuff I have to have my laptop on just to power the device so then the HDMI works...... Shoddy design. Needs external power so people can simple plug in there USB when they want to use it to record as they wont record every single thing they do.

I cant just simply switch between HDMI and DVI on my PC Monitor its either one or the other.

Good for console rubbish for us PC gamers.

I will be sending this product back as soon as possible.

Another update.

I have turned down the UAC until it states the screen does not dim when UAC pops up...... This has got over the issue of a black screen when it pops up.

Yet another issue popped up after this. Theres still no preview in the window on the roxio software and now the preview does not pop up when i start recording althoug the video still comes out fine.

Ok new things are happening lol.

I managed to get an image again BUT there was no preview on the roxio software until i started recording.......

BUT once again when I open something that uses UAC the screen goes black and i cannot do anything until I unplug HDMI from the device and direct to monitor from PC.....

It just seems to be 1 issue after another.

Oh and to add. To get it working again I tried plugging the monitor to PC with HDMI directly so the PC would install the monitor drivers for HDMI so I know it will detect the monitor.

But this doesnt solve the other issues now.

Ok I have tried the same setup but using a BD player as the source. this comes up no problems just with the expected locked source or whatever it states.

Going back to PC using the same working usb port and cable there is still no signal. I have also made sure there are no other cabled plugged in to my monitor ie. DVI and such so the HDMI is the only cable plugged in.

Very strange.

It is the Laptop that is the key here...

Your PC is merely a Source, like a DVD Player or Xbox.

FIRST thing to eliminate is the Red 'No Signal' on the Lap!!!

Since it is Red (not green) it means what it says - no signal from the RCG Device is getting to it...

That can mean, nothing coming from the PC (hdmi) or your USB Connection between Lap and RGC Device is not working...

To pin those 2 down I suggest, use a known good source - DVD or BD Player AND try all USB ports on your Laptop!

Also by using another Source, you should be able to rig up Component input to the RGC Device just to see if anything works that way ;)
