Chapters On Toast 11

Question

Hello,

I'm new to toast. I'm trying to add chapters to my movie imported from fcp7. When I select a menu for example "Roses 16x9", I manually added chapter markers and i selected the frame to appear on the menu. That I can do and I can understand it. I don't see a "Play" button on the menu. Is this possible? The picture I uploaded can be clicked on from the DVD player, but it goes to the next screen with my manual chapter markers. I can click on the first chapter which plays the movie, but I'd like to be able to play the movie from the menu screen.

Does toast have an option to play the movie from the menu screen and select chapters from the menu screen?

Click the "Customize..." button at the right of the Toast window and a window opens that has a "Menus" tab at the top (which is probably already selected). There you can click the box next to "Include Scene Menus for Video."

After doing that here is how the menu works on the DVD player: The video(s) you added to Toast display as title(s) with a thumbnail image. When playing on a DVD player click on a highlighted thumbnail to start playback. Because you chose to include the scene (chapter) menus a new menu page appears instead of the video starting playback. In this window click the first thumbnail to begin playback from the beginning of the video or click any other thumbnail to start playback from any chapter point. You cannot control what thumbnail image Toast chooses for the chapters nor add any text to the scene (chapter) menu.

If you do not check the box to "Include Scene Menus" then clicking on the highlighted thumbnail will start the video playing. The chapters can be selected by clicking the chapter skip button on the remote control but there is no chapter menu screen.

I'm also new to Toast. I have created 1 minute videos using iMovie. I have been successful burning them onto a DVD, showing 6 "chapters" or vignettes that I can select individually. However, I'd like to customize each thumbnail with an image and title that depicts what the chapter is about (Example: Danger on the Mara, picture of Hyena). Is this possible? The only thing that is showing up is my trailer opening which has the name of my company. Not very helpful in differentiating the content of each vignette. Any ideas?

There is no way to change anything inside the chapter menu. There is no option for text either. iDVD did allow customizing chapter menus so maybe you can get ahold of a copy of that. It still works in the current OS even though Apple doesn't offer it any more. I think there is a DVD authorizing application from a seller called Wondershare that also may allow customized chapter menus.
