Destination Drive Changes From Bd-R To Dvd

I am attempting to backup data files to a Samsung portable blu-ray writer. I load up my file window and check the samsung as my destination, but when I put a blank disc in and close the tray - the destination drive switches to my internal DVD drive, and the Samsung is no longer in the list of available recorders.

 

Toast 11, Mac Pro OSX 10.7.5, USB 2.0 connection.

 

Any advice?

It sounds like a communication problem between the drive and the Mac. Do you have the drive directly connected to the Mac or is it through a USB hub? If the latter, connect directly. It's really strange that Toast loses contact with the drive at the time the drive is recognizing the loaded disc. Is a window popping up in the Finder? I sometimes get one when loading a blank disc, and I click Ignore among the window's options.

 

As an experiment, does the drive disappear when you insert a blank DVD?

!!!!! Good Call tsantee!! I'd had it going thru a hub. Plugged it straight in and it's happily burning my backups.
