Why Does A 2.4Gb Mpf Grow Too Large During Authoring To Fit On A 4.33Gb Dvd

Question

Why does a 2.4 GB MP4 "expand' during authoring that it will NOT fit on a 4.33 GB DVD+R sl The DVD is 4.5 rated but when it is ready to burn to it shows only 2.33 Available? Any Ideas about what is going on? I just cannot imagine...

What you are seeing is normal and nothing strange at all.

File size is almost meaningless when burning DVDs. A standard video DVD at best quality has a resolution of 720x480 (for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL) and a bitrate around 8000. All source material has to be converted to this standard. So if you source video is highly compressed it will have to be re-rendered to the DVD mpeg format and this may expand or contract the video file size.
