Toast Titanium 11.1 (1072) consistently crashes when opening certain .m4v files. Some files will play. The problem files are apparently those my wife purchased through iTunes. The same files play OK in Quicktime.
They will not play in VLC 2.0.8 (does nothing). On Windows 7 64-bit the same .m4v files will play in Quicktime, but not in VLC or WMP 12.0.7601.
I suspect the problem is some type of DRM or missing codec issue which the player apps are not handling gracefully. An app should never, ever crash in cases like this. If it needs a codec or encounters a missing element it should raise an error, inform the user and gracefully exit or continue.
The problem is upon install, Toast 11 took over the default player status for .m4v files. Of course I can switch that back to Quicktime, but many people will not know how to do this. This creates a support burden for Roxio and confusion and frustration for customers.
Roxio Video Player crash info below.
