Creator Nxt Pro Hangs Installing Vhs Capture Device

Win Ultimate SP1 on an HP dv7t CTO-6100 Quad laptop

 

Eventually it times out and rolls back Corel WinDVD and says "installation interrupted...try again..."

 

My 2011 Special Edition USB dongle failed so I needed to install this newer version.

 

Tried it with and without updates and with and without dongle plugged in.

 

Does the dongle need a firmware patch?

 

I can attach a few of the smaller install log files...

Please don't confuse "cleaners" with "uninstallers". Get REVO uninstaller directly from the developer and not from Cnet. Go here. there is no need for the Pro. Remember to use it using the MODERATE Mode only.

 

Note: if you do go to cnet to download software, ignore the big green download button. In many cases, not all, there is a direct download link to the developer.

I have given up on registry cleaners and turned them all off, except for emergency clean-ups.

Is there one you can recommend for "occasional use only"? I have heard good things about CCleaner.

I use Regseeker [FREE from Hoverdesk] to clean my registry and check my startup entries for anything that has sneaked itself in there.

CCleaner is excellent and safe for file and cache cleanups. I use it at least daily before my daily backups. I haven't used the registry side of CCleaner, but only because I was using Regseeker first.

Dongle = USB Capture Device that came packaged with Roxio Creator NXT Pro.

This USB device appears not to work with earlier versions of Creator and vice versa.

But NXT on start-up kindly offers to save me $10 on buying the "VHS to DVD capture" device (which I already have; so obviously an install problem here...)

Tried different RCA cables, different USB port (built-in, not on a hub just as before).

 

Bought NXT last Xmas so just money down the drain if the USB device itself is bad. 2010 SE / 2011 SE worked for my purposes - if it ain't broke...

 

Did a thorough uninstall per legacy removal directions of all previos Creator/Roxio/Sonic versions (on Roxio Support site).

 

Trying one more time with NXT.

 

If still a failure then moving to Diamond equivalent product rated 1st on a 10 Best list. Lesson learned: Look for company mergers (Corel+Roxio) first rather than product brand names that worked well in the past. Sigh.

 

Now, with all files on C: drive - I got another "install interrupted... try again later..." Log files are more than 5MB...

The Roxio Capture USB device works fine in NXT...

 

You have some problems, most likely with your PC, but let's try this first.

 

Open the Device Manager (Win-Pause, upper left corner)

 

Plug in the Roxio USB device.

 

DELETE the 2 entries for it!

 

Then follow these instructions:

 

Unplug your Roxio Video Capture USB device and put it aside until you are completely finished.

 

Download and install the

Revo

Uninstaller. Then run it in

Moderate Mode

to remove any traces of Roxio.

 

Then turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc.

 

Now insert your Roxio Disc.

 

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

 

When the Install competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

I finally found my Creator 2011 SE disk and re-installed it.

Its USB Capture device now works again.

Maybe just a glitch originally. ALAIWDFWI.....

 

In a couple of weeks I may have more time to fiddle with the upgrade. Can I re-install NXT Pro from the C: drive folder or better to use the disks again?

I hope Revo is a "clean" download -- I have had SO MANY issues with trialware, even on sites like CNET, that I am extremely dubious.
