Breaking up an AVI file

DannyD

Question

I video tape my daughters Volleyball matches and want to create a DVD with menu items with each game in the match. Once I extract the Video from my digital camcorder I have one big avi file. Is there an easy way to break up the avi file in to separate files so I can create menus in MyDVD?

Thanks

Bring the avi file to Videowave. If say you want to break that big file into two smaller files you can do the following (some texts borrowed from James' advise from another post):

1) decide at what point in the big file where you want to split it

2) Use the Split icon at the point decided in step 1 and at the end of the big file. Click on the 2nd portion and press Delete. This leaves the first portion. Save this production

3) Do step 2 but this time click on the first portion and press Delete. This leaves the second portion. Save this production using another name.

4) In MyDVD use Add Photo/Video and bring in the two productions. That should create two selectable menus.

You can use a free utility called WinDV to capture your video from a DV camcorder to individual avi files based on the timestamp of the video. Do a google search for WinDV.

Thanks Jess...This is actually the way I have been doing it but thought there might be an easier way to pull clips (sometimes I have 10-15) off the big file without reloading it.

Thanks again
