You May Not Be Able To Restore Your System Safely

dlouie2

Question

I have an HP netbook Compaq mini dv.

Windows XP.

Roxio BackOnTrack came installed.

Recently I had to recover from a Roxio restore point. And ever since then a popup message I keep getting is

"You may not be able to restore your system safely

Windows System Restore and Roxio BackOnTrack are both active.

This is not recommended.

Click this message to find out how to solve this problem."

Clicking and de-activiating Windows System Restore several times doesn't work.

Went to the HP support forum

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-e-g-Windows-8-and-Software/Conflict-between-Windows-System-Restart-and-Roxio/m-p/1683003#M104108

Modified the registry according to these instructions (method 3)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=283073

Still getting the pop up message.

Please help have this conflict resolved.

Thanks in advance.

You have an HP OEM version of BackOnTrack. This is really a matter between you and HP, since they undertook to provide all the support for these programs they bundle with their computers.

Roxio doesn't support the earlier versions of their own BackOnTrack now, and they only provide a 'reduced function' version in their current NXT suites. :(
