Batch Convert Gracenote Song Info Only Matches Tracks 1 & 2

rolmerdude

Question

I just downloaded Creator NXT 2 to replace NXT 2013 and now I receive an error I've never seen before when downloading track info through Gracenote. The first two tracks download properly, but all the remaining tracks return a "NO Match". This error happens every time. Any suggestions? It's very frustrating to enter all the missing information manually.

Checkin a little more.

When you first put the disc in to the Rip app what shows?

Do you only get names for the first 2 tracks or for the whole thing?

When I tried, the Rip app populated all of the track names correctly.I did see the Gracenote logo in the top left corner.

Moving to the Editor, the problem seems to occur when you try multiple tracks at once.

If you ID each track separately, then it seems to work just fine.

If you choose multiple tracks to identify at once then it seems to ID the first 2 and show No Match for the rest.

I even chose the remaining tracks that didn't get identified the first pass and ran it again without closing screens or anything and it will ID the next 2 tracks and show No Match for the rest.

You can keep doing this until all identify.

I agree this isn't correct but is a way around until something may get fixed.

Well when I had the problem with NXT4 right after I purchased it as an upgrade for 2009 it didn't work & Roxio support blamed it on my Windows install so I wiped & reloaded the computer to no avail.  Now here I am years later.  I just installed NXT4 on a freshly loaded Windows 10 PC & I still can't do more than 2 tracks at a time.  Roxio keeps trying to get me to spend money upgrading to a newer version.  Why would I spend money on something that won't be fixed if it doesn't work?

Yes, I have encountered this problem some months ago. Running Windows 7 64-bit.Roxio Creator NXT2 Pro is the product. At one time, all songs selected used to be identified. Now, only two at a time and then the same behavior indicated by all of you occurs. It says "no match" for the rest on the list to be identified. You can go back as many times as necessary - but it will only do two at a time.

I talked with Gracenote tech support for hours. They said it is a Roxio issue and should be addressed by them. I find Roxio tech support almost impossible to use - or to get anyone to even talk to you about anything.

They seem to bury their heads in the sand and refuse to even admit their is a software bug. I admit this problem should be addressed and solved. I have used their products for many, many years.

I hope you have better luck than I have.

Sounds like this problem has been around for a while. Roxio is very slow in correcting problems, hard to figure how something in a previous release worked but fails in a new release. I've seen this before in Roxio releases.

I've seen that happen in $20,000 software as well... So it is not exclusive to Roxio.

I just purchased NXT2 (upgraded from NXT). The NXT worked perfect, but I was advised NXT2 worked better. I ALWAY do the Roxio Edit Audio Tags on every album I buy. I have over 450GB of music on my computer. It worked perfect until NXT2. Now only the first two songs are identified. The next songs have NO MATCH. This was reported to Roxio back in October. Has there been a fix done? This is a huge problem for me.

Brendon, you said" As to BackOnTrack, mine's working properly without let or hindrance, and is not sticking its nose into 'Edit and Transfer'. I suspect Steve has a hiccup on his system which none of us is encountering."

I have a background program on my computer that tracks crashes. It has been reliable in the past but that doesn't mean it is correct now. :P

Same for me. The whole CD was identified straight off.

Same here. Seems a complicated way to go about what 'Rip - Advanced' does for me in one operation, and I can't see the point in getting Gracenote to identify a track several times over. However Rolmerdude was reporting the search limitations of the editor and his point is made.

I booted up my "other" computer that has NXT 2 Pro on it and tried to identify several pieces of music. I tried several times with different pieces of music. The music I used was a Sara Brightman album and an album of children's music all downloaded to my computer from Amazon.

In all tests, the program identified the first 2 pieces of music, hung for a second or two and then could not identify any other music in the list. I also got a message that "Roxio BACK ON TRACK" (BOT) had crashed. I use a program that tracks crashes. I have no idea how or why BOT got into the equation.

I'll report this to Roxio.

Thanks for the reply, Brendon. I have always used Gracenote with all the versions of Creator & don't know how to change the search service to another provider. Second, Creator NXT did not have this problem. It is brand new with NXT 2. Third, I tend to think it is a Roxio problem because I can download Gracenote info fine as long as I only select two tracks at a time. Here is my workflow:

A. Rip CD to C:/My Music using mp3 decoder at 320k

B. Use Roxio Edit Audio Tags with checkmarks for "Use MusicID tags", "Music ID" & Embed or replace tags inside audio files

C. Gracenote logo pops up in upper left hand corner, but identifies only the first two tracks. All the remaining tracks are "No Match"

I hope this helps clarify my trouble.

Gracenote. No plural.

Who else would it be, Steve? [see top left corner]

Rolmerdude,

how are you downloading your info from Gracenote? When I start to import from an audio CD, the whole CD is immediately identified.

Are you somehow getting tracks from varied sources and then asking Gracenote to identify them?

Does this only happen with NXT 2, whereas you could do the same thing and it would work properly in NXT ?

Can you outline in some detail how you're doing it that gets that problem, so I can try what you do in both versions of NXT and see if I can duplicate the problem, please?

Regards,

Brendon

After experimenting with the "No Match" errors by selecting two tracks at a time, Gracenote returns the correct info. So, Roxio needs to fix the bug that restricts download track info to only two tracks at a time.

Is Gracenote restricting the Gracenote identification to two tracks at a time, or is it Roxio?
