Video Suddenly Blanked Out

Question

I have been using Easy VHS to DVD on an HP laptop running Win Vista 64bit for a couple months, and it has worked fine, importing video and audio well. After Windows Update ran some updates marked by Microsoft as Important, the video capture window started blanking out. It does not have the "no video signal" error message, but only displays a black window. When I tested it by recording a segment of video and played the video back in another player, the audio was fine, but the video was blacked out. I tried repairing the software installation, but it did not fix the error. I installed the software to another computer (a netbook running Windows 7) to make sure the USB device was working, and it worked fine. Also ran the latest Windows Important updates to Windows 7, and tried the Easy software: still worked fine. I tried uninstalling the software from the laptop, rebooting, then reinstalling the software from scratch and rebooting again: the video remains blacked out. The app says there is not any updates for the program, and as the Windows updates were all Microsoft Important updates (mostly security updates) removing those aren't really an option, so I don't know what to try next. Please advise.

In the latest list of important software updates was one for Microsoft CPU on-board video chip. Did you install that? It screwed up my laptop top royally. Mikne would have been a different download but yours may be similar.

Jim's idea is the one to go with - use Windows Restore and then installing the updates in groups and testing to see if and which one is the culprit.
