Thinking Of Upgrading To Mavericks, Will It Hose Toast?

I'm thinking of upgrading to Mavericks...the price certainly is right! But I'm wondering if doing so will "break" Toast 11.1. Does anyone know or have any ideas? Roaring Apps.com seems to think it's not compatible. I really can't afford to have to pay to upgrade to a newer version of Toast (when it's available) to be able to keep Toast functioning.

Under Mavericks I launch toast 11.1, it seems to load as I can se the menu bar across the top of the screen - then CRASH B4 any window(s) open

I am having the EXACT same problem. It will start loading and then I get the bar across the top and white screen and then nothing until I have to go in and do a force quit because it has quit responding. HELP!!!!!!!!

Do you have any external audio or video devices connected to the Mac? If so, disconnect them to see if Toast launches. When Toast launches it looks for connected cameras and optical drives and sometimes can stall if it can't figure out what it is finding.

I'm thinking of buying a new iMac that comes with Mavericks. Can't I partition the drive and install Snow Loepard (10.6.8) on that if Toast 11.2 doesn't work on Mavericks?

No. A new Mac will not accept installation of a previous OS. In any case, Toast 11.2 should work fine with Mavericks except for the Web video capture. Also Spin Doctor X doesn't work and never was any good.

Have you updated to Toast 11.2? If not, download it from Roxio's Software Updates page.

Is there any audio, photo or video external device connected to your Mac? If so, unplug that and try again.

I don't have an explanation for why that is happening on your Mac and not mine. Trash the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder to see if that makes any difference. See if launching from a new user account makes any difference.

Are you saying it crashes when going through the initial setup that includes the registration key or are you referring to some other set up? The more I read reports from users who are experiencing problems with Toast after different System updates the more I think the problem can be fixed if the user owns and runs DiskWarrior. The problem might be with the OS installation rather than with Toast. Of course I can be wrong but I'm not experiencing crashes with Toast on my Macs running OS 10.8.5 or 10.9.0. DiskWarrior isn't cheap but it has been my Mac's best friend a few times.

I can't even launch Toast 11. Instant crash before any windows even open.

I installed Mavericks yesterday and Toast Titanium 11.1 today. Every time --- EVERY TIME --- I launch, it asks if it can access my contacts (I've never seen any version of Toast do this -- even v. 11.1 under Lion), puts me through the registration process, and then crashes.

I recall this issue be raised awhile back but I've searched and can't find a topic where it's mentioned. Users asked "Why does Roxio need access to my contacts?". I never have known an answer. But it isn't something new with Mavericks. It may be new when Roxio completely rewrote Toast 11 as version 11.1. Are you always responding "Don't Allow"? If so, you may continue getting the message until you choose "OK". I know it no longer appears for me and I must have cast caution to the wind and given it the okay.

 

As for crashing at the completion of the registration process with your Lion installation, how soon does that occur? When Toast launches it first looks for connected devices such a disc burners and video cameras. Some users with Firewire audio devices found those caused Toast to crash. You might check if disconnecting external devices other than hard drives might prevent the crash.

It does the same thing. Goes to set-up, when you click continue, crashes. Yet it was working fine before the 10.8.5 update (I was running 10.8.4 before). So I might as well go to Mavericks since Toast is toasted. The lack of tech support is appalling. In any case, if anyone has any ideas, much appreciated.

Mine Titanium is not working with Maverick update... it does everything and gets to writing in lead and hangs... then it hangs when you click abort... won't work!! well, mine isn't working.

Please describe more details. Is this a Data, Video or Audio disc? If it's a video disc is it standard-definition or High-definition? What happens if you choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button and then burn the resulting .toast file to disc using the Image File setting in the Copy window?

Toast 11.1 not working for video conversion for me with Mac 10.9. You load the video, it launched the clip editor and then just gets stuck. No selectable buttons or pull downs. Have to force quit. 100% repeatable. tried with many different video files with the same result.

I'd like more detail. You say it is the editor that isn't working? I just tried with several SD and HD videos that are Apple Intermediate Codec and each worked fine with the editor. See if trashing the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunching Toast might fix the issue.

So far the only thing that's reportedly not working in Mavericks is the Web Video capture for Flash videos. I've updated my MacBook Pro to Mavericks but will hold off a little while with my iMac until I learn more. I won't wait very long, however, because I want to be using those new iLife & iWork apps on both machines. So far the only thing I've done is test all the settings, authored a DVD video and checked that Mount It still works.
