Convert Dvp To One Apple Tv File

Jeremy Lawrence

Question

I would be very grateful for any help offered on my problem. If I have posted to the wrong group, then I apologise. Or indeed if I have broken any other etiquette. I have created a dvd from my holiday home video. It is 83 separate "chapters". I have tried to convert using Toast 11, the files to play on apple TV. However, it has created 83 separate .mv4 files. How do I get the video files into ONE mv4 file as all my downloaded films are, and indeed I have created before. I am sure it's me, but I cannot work out what I'm doing wrong. I am running OS Mavericks. Thank you all once again

If they are 83 chapters then Toast should default to making one video but if they are 83 titles on the DVD then Toast sees them as individual videos. You can use QuickTime Player to join the exported videos. In QuickTime this is done with cut & paste. Open the first video. Then open the second, select all can choose Copy. Then go back to the first video and choose Add clip to the End from the Edit menu. You'd have to do this 83 times and then save the combined video.

If these are indeed chapters and not titles, what steps did you take to add the DVD to Toast and prepare it for export?

Sorry, I apologise. What I mean by chapters/titles is. You record for say 2 minutes or so, then pause then record again etc etc. Well I have done this 83 times during the course of this one home movie. I hope that that is clearer. Thanks again

I'm sorry that I'm still confused. You say created a DVD from your home movies and now want to convert those to play on an Apple TV. I'm guessing you have a camcorder that records to a DVD disc. Is that correct? Are you adding the videos to Toast directly from the DVD or have you connected the camcorder to the Mac? What settings did you choose in the Toast Convert window when adding the videos?

Your camcorder would not have made new titles when you paused recording. It would make new titles if you stopped and started the recordings. I need to know what Toast is seeing on the DVD to advise you about a solution. There is a Merge Clips command in the Toast Edit menu but it only works with one type of video and I don't know what one that is. If you select a couple clips in the main Toast window and Merge Clips is still grayed out in the Edit menu then you file type is the one it works with.

It seems to me that Toast should have kept your videos together as a single export file.

I believe I have the answer now. The clue was in digital gurus reply which included "what steps did you take to add the DVD to Toast and prepare it for export? " The problem was that I added the files to taost using the sd card. I did not connect the camera. That is why it all went pear shaped. Thanks for your help, it is really appreciated
