Runtime Error - Vcgproxyfilemanagervhs.exe

Issue: Installs with no errors but when I start the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 application it throws a runtime error for ‘VCGProxyFileManagerVHS.exe’. When I click on ‘ok’ button it throw another runtime error with ‘R6025 pure virtual function call’. When I click on ‘ok’ it will continue and then repeat the same two error messages. After that the application will start but when I close the app Windows reports the application has stopped working and prompts me to close it.

Interestingly enough I can actually capture video if I click through the above errors. But most of the time (8 out of 10 times) the captured video has many dropped frames and is jerky.

Additionally when I click on the ‘import video’ button I get the error message “An unknown error has occurred. The application will shut down now. Exception: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.”

But frankly, since the app starts with errors I am not sure I should be spending time trying to resolve the other issues. I searched the knowledgebase and this forum and cannot find anyone who has had this issue. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

My specs:

Dell Precision 380

Pentium 4 3.4GHz

2TB HD, 1.5TB free with 0% fragmentation

Win7 SP1 32 bit

NVIDIA GeForce8400GS – Driver version (1/18/2013)

DirectX 11

No Firewall or AV products running

The USB device(s) are enumerated correctly in Device Manager

Things that I have tried:

Tried repairing the installation – No change

Completely uninstalled and reinstalling to a different location – No change

Run As Administrator – No Change

Run in Compatibility Mode (both as WinXP SP3 and WInXP SP2) – No Change

Different USB ports – No change

Different VHS tapes – No change

I have 25 years of experience in troubleshooting these kinds of issue and am at a loss, any/all input very welcome!

Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the double post...

Update: I tried recording directly to a DVD and upon stopping the recording it immediately throws the same exception error. This seems to imply that the ‘VCGProxyFileManagerVHS.exe’ is used when burning the file system on a DVD.

I also have now installed this to a second PC that is running WinXP SP2. It installed and runs perfectly on this PC even though this PC is barely above the minimum hardware requirements!?! Now that I can see how the app performs on this PC I better understand how much it is struggling on the higher end PC, everything (loading the app, access the video signal, etc) takes 2-3 times longer on the higher end PC.

One large difference is that I have a large amount of multimedia codec’s, drivers, apps on the higher end PC and am now thinking that this is causing the jerky captures (specifically the sound codecs). Has anyone had issues with certain sound codecs?

Thanks gain
