Live Streaming Via Twitch Does Not Work

Kura

Question

I've read all of the support documents about getting Game Capture HD to stream to Twitch, they suggest using a justin.tv account and setting it's category to "Gaming", this category does not exist anymore so is not an option.

I could use OBS or Xsplit to stream, but if that's the case I may as well not use the Game Capture HD device because I am playing a PC game, the whole point of buying the GCHD device was to use that rather than my graphics cards/CPU. Using OBS/Xsplit with the GCHD device as a video or screen capture is essentially the same as capturing the output directly from the game and thus is an unnecessary step.

I can log in to my twitch.tv account via the GCHD device but no channel is listed due to JTV working on splitting TTV and JTV in to separate entities.

I am using the latest version of the GCHD software.

Any ideas?

It is not Roxio's fault. HD Pro has been released before JustinTV fully separated their gaming channel which is now Twitch. Although HD Pro lacks update (late update is their fault), they are not the one to blame because it works before Gaming category has been removed by Justin.TV. I've been informed that the Roxio guys are working on this one. I've had a case to a Roxio support recently and they want to let us know that they are now working on it.

Definitely agree with you about the update being long over due. It's been a year and I figured with all the advertising of how great their product is that we'd see more support for the device. It's not even a bad device, I definitely like the quality of the Roxio and I'd prefer to use the included software to stream as well. It makes no sense that people are still having these problems, but all we can do is hope that they do SOMETHING.

There was a reply to this topic but it seems to have been deleted.

Surely this is a simple fix by adding a drop down to choose between Twitch and Justin? They use the same servers and the same API endpoints, all they did was remove the ability to stream to Twitch using your JTV account.

Or you could just allow us to type in api.twitch.tv or api.justin.tv or, better yet remove JTV entirely and use TTV because the device is meant for capture gameplay and TTV is for games, JTV is not.

I have been digging around inside hex editors etc trying to find how the Roxio software sets it's API urls, eventually I was lead to the Registry.

You will need to have the actual Capture program running, not the launcher but the capture window, the one that shows the preview of your game.

With this open, you will need to open Windows Registry

You can do this by going Start -> Run -> and type: "regedit", press enter

You will need to look for this folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Roxio\Game1X\MediaImport\AVCapture\Config

Inside here are some variables that we will need to modify while the program is running, they are;

  • LocationUrl
  • StreamKey

Double click "LocationUrl" and set it to one of the URLs from this page - http://bashtech.net/twitch/ingest.php, make sure it's a twitch.tv URL not justin.tv

Press OK and double click on "StreamKey"

Go to http://www.twitch.tv...board/streamkey and copy your stream key, pasting it in to the "StreamKey" variable and press OK.

Because you've set a stream key and location directly in to the registry you will not need to log in to Twitch using the options window, this thing is kind of null and void since all Twitch actually needs for you to stream to it is a stream key.

Now, go to the capture Window and press the "LIVE STREAM" button, this should now start streaming to twitch.

PLEASE NOTE: THE PROGRAM OVERWRITES THESE REGISTRY VALUES EACH TIME IT IS OPENED, YOU WILL NEED TO MODIFY THEM EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO STREAM

First ~ dabbling with your Registry can disable your PC faster than you can say Oh Sh-t...

The software as well as the SP1 update was issued a year ago.

So one would think that if there is an issue, it might have turned up long long ago and not just after Twitch made a major policy change in July?

Apparently the update DOES NOT fix the login issue. Because plenty of people are still having the issue. Atleast hes trying to fix the issue instead of just saying welp stream with obs or xsplit.

Can you imagine what would happen if Roxio/Corel gave advice like Kura just gave, and many folks killed their computers by messing around with the registry? I don't think it would work out well for Roxio/Corel.

Now, have you gone to the Justin TV site and flooded their forums with your questions and bashing?

Lol its not twitch tv fault its ROXIO'S. They made a product that allowed a Justin tv login KNOWING Twitch was the gaming channel. HOWEVER I have been all over there twitter asking questions and they have been 100% helpful with this process gettin me to understand the process of the api switch and what if means. The truth of the matter is people are trying to be loyal to Roxio but trying to continue using the equipment but they are making it hard. The info given by Kura shows me that this IS A SIMPLE FIX. Im sure there are many who just said screw it and bought a quality product like a Elgato. Btw Kura good job bro.

Btw does your answer look anything like and answer to the roxio issue???? You should EXPECT owners of a worthless 150$ product to bash the company that REFUSES to help there customers. Put yourself in our shoes. This isent a isolated problem. Were starting to pop up left and right now with more to some.
