Annoying Error Message

Question

I posted this problem previously but so far have received no answer. I NEED an answer because this problem is preventing transfer of files on my system. I recently uninstalled Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite because of problems it was causing. Removing it was not easy, even using Revo Uninstaller Pro. Some files finally had to be deleted manually. However, this *#^&* program is still giving me heartburn. Whenever I try to transfer a file from one folder to another or even try to backup a file on a disk, I get the following error:

_________________________________________________

Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite

Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Easy

Media Creator 8 Suite.

_________________________________________________

Eventually, this error message is followed by:

_________________________________________________

Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM

or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suit' disk and

click OK.

Use source:

As I said I NEED a resolution of this problem. Anyone that can help, please answer ASAP.

Thanks,

DC

What are you using to transfer files or burning to disc?

I don't know what files you deleted manually but there are certain Roxio files (related to burning) that came with Windows and should not be deleted. These files had nothing to do with EMC 8.

BTW, you have only post registered so there is no previous post to respond to.

To transfer files I use cut and paste or copy and paste. For burning to disk, I use Nero software. Excuse my ignorance, but you say certain Roxio files came with Windows. How is that possible? I bought and installed Windows XP long before I ever installed the Roxio software. BTW, this Roxio window also appears whenever I left click on a drive and click on Properties. So what do I need to do to get rid of this annoyance?

Finally, what do you mean by "post registered"?

Windows XP has the Roxio CD burning engine built in. That's how it is possible.

I still need a solution to this problem. If I reinstall the Roxio software and then uninstall, will that solve the problem?

Perhaps you should explain exactly what you are trying to do and how you are doing it. What program are you using to transfer files from one folder to another.

You colud try to reinstall EMC 8 and then uninstall again but without doing any manual "deletes". Using Revo in the "moderate" mode is very easy, I don't know why had problems.

What I am trying to do is get rid of the Roxio software because of all the problems it has caused. Uninstalling Roxio caused me nothing but headaches, even using Rev Uninstaller Pro. Exactly what happened during the uninstall process I can't tell you because I didn't keep a log of every event as it happened. As to how I copy or transfer files I don't use any particular program; I just use Cut and Paste or drag the file from one folder to the destination folder. I am now going to try installing Roxio then uninstall using Rev Uninstaller, but I don't have a good feeling about this. I think it will simply cause additional problems. If this doesn't work, I will try using the Windows XP installation disk in Repair Files mode.

Try the free trial of Revo Uninstaller Pro and use the forced uninstaller. Put Easy Media Creator into the find box. It will delete that but NOT anything else. Remember to select scan after the program is deleted. When the scan completes, check what it want to delete and delete those that you want deleted, It will do that twice, I usually do a select all and then a delete all.

I tried to reinstall the Roxio software and got the following:

"Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite is already installed.

To uninstall or repair this application, use 'Add or Remove Programs' in the Control Panel."

I then tried to uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Pro. After about a minute I got the following:

"Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file

C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite.msi"

The file mentioned does not exist. I then tried to uninstall the Roxio software using the Windows "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. Although the program is listed, there is no ADD or CHANGE

option available. My current situation is that I can neither install or uninstall the Roxio software. I think I

have only one option left: reinstall my complete system (unless someone else has a better idea).

Update: After fooling around with both the Revo Uninstaller and the Windows XP Add or Remove, I finally got rid of most of the Roxio software and I don't get any more error message when I copy files from one folder to another. I say "most of the Roxio software" because "Roxio Easy Media Creator 8" is still on my All Programs menu. If I click on it I get Tools and if I click on that, I get Disk and Device Utility. But I think I will just leave it at that as long as I don't get any more error messages.
