How To Place Chapters In Dvd

I have six pieces recorded in concert, each is a quicktime .MOV file. I was to put them on a DVD so that each piece is a chapter. Hoiw can I do that?

Hope you don't mind that I came directly to you for help, but for all the very recent/intense research I've done on this issue, I've found your posts most clear and helpful. Following mostly your posts I've gone from NO ability/clue how to add chapter markers to at least getting some semblance of chapter markers created/burned onto a DVD. progress!!!

 

Here's where I'm at! Per attached picture, though I created "descriptive" Chapter Markers in iMovie 09... Upon burning them onto DVD w/ Toast 11, only the "numerical" Chapter markers from Toast appear on final DVD.

 

I "believe" I've followed the recommendations correctly when I shared Via the Browser" (instead of Drag-n-Drop), but I could me wrong.

 

I would be most grateful for any help to turn this last corner in my quest for meaningful Descriptive Chapter Marker titles.

 

(FYI...I've seen some of the recommendations that appear to explain how to achieve this result by some how creating "individual clips" and then incorporating them via Toast...each as clip as a chapter. I understand that concept, but frankly can't fully understand implementing that solution)

Toast does not accept any text with its chapters. It is one of its weaknesses as a DVD authoring application. No audio with menus is another absence. There are some DVD authoring applications that do support text with chapters. You can get iDVD from older iLife install discs or search macupdate.com for DVD authoring apps.

Just to be clear: I refer to individual videos that can be selected in the top menu as "Titles" and markers where scenes within a title are found using the chapter skip key on a remote as "Chapters." When you say you want each piece to be a chapter it sounds like you want each of them to be a title. It's fairly simple to do either.

 

If you want them to each be a title then add the video six times to the Toast Video window. Then click the Edit button to enter the window where you can mark the start and end point for each video. When you're done each of the six videos will have a different start and end point. If you check the box next to Play all items continuously each title will automatically play one after the other although there will be a slight pause (freeze) between titles.

 

If you want to mark chapter points within a title click the Edit button and click the Chapters tab in the window that appears. Select Manual. Place a chapter at the very start by clicking the + icon. Now play the video to each point where you want a chapter marker to be placed and click the + button at those points.

 

You can have Toast create a Scene menu that has a thumbnail video frame at each chapter marker. This is done by selecting "Include scene menus for video" in the Menus section of the window that appears when you click the Customize... button. There is no option for text with the scene menu.

Thanks! I think you are right, I want each of the six videos tpo be a title. No chapters within them. To be clear on what I want, it is to be able to play cintiuously, and to be able to go to the one they want to see. Thanks! I'll see if I can do that...

 

I am a sound guy, not a video person, so all this is foreign to me!

Guru...Thanks for the response/help! I was thinking I'd end up needing that older iLife/iDVD version. I tried downloading "free versions" only to find that they only provide the iDVD 7 "Upgrade" file.. not the underlying base file needed. Does anyone have a reliable site/process to download a free functioning copy of the older iDVD software? if not, I guess I'll need to buy on Amazon.
