Roxio Vhs To Dvd Won't Pick Up The Sound Off The Vhs, Only The Video

Should have known better

I'm also experiencing a problem with audio. It worked the first two times and now it won't record the audio at all. I'm using the composite video connector and still have this problem so I don't think its just a bad S_Video connector. I have an iMac, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB of memory. The OS is Mavericks 10.9.1.

I actually have two adaptors because I started doing my VHS to DVD conversion using a Windows laptop several years ago. I bought the Mac equivalent last year and I've tried both adaptors with no difference. How can this work for two 2-hour videos and then stop working?

Has the person with the moniker "Should have known better" solved the issue? I don't see any more posts from you. Please let me know if you found a solution. Thanks.

Hi Team,

I am having the same problem except that the video output is B&W and no sound at all.

My Mac is late 2013 with the top of the range spec. I am using the latest version of Easy VHS to DVD for Mac, received yesterday from Roxio.

I have had to buy a new Two-Way adaptor lead this morning to replace the One-Way lead that I had to go from the VCR (Panasonic NV-FJ620B) SCART to S-Video and Audio.

This is a Maplins L28AJ.

Any suggestions how I can get the Colour Back and the Sound, please?

Further to my last post I am wondering if the problem is with the PAL Format being output?

I know that the video signal tends to go B&W if the wrong format is set in the device.

I cannot see how to change the format to PAL within Easy VHS to DVD for Mac hardware or software.

I can only guess. The USB stick does get warm when doing the capture. Maybe something within it failed due to the heat and is now defective. I don't know what kind of warranty it has or your seller's return policy, but I think you should treat it as defective and get a replacement.

There seems to be a pattern developing here with audio that is working and then no longer working. Is everyone who is experiencing this running Mavericks? Did it stop working after a system update? I have a higher-end device that I normally use and only plug in the Roxio one to test if I have the same result as others. The last time I checked on my MBP running Mavericks the audio captured okay. I can check again. My MBP had a bad reaction to the 10.9.2 update so I had to use Time Machine to go back to 10.9.1. What OS version are you running?

I download from my camera through the roxio product. Initially both the sound and the picture came across, but then the sound stopped. I deleted the program and reloaded it and the same thing happened. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

What program do you have? There is a "Vhs to DVD" and a "VHS to DVD 3". Once you tell us the full name of the program it can be moved to the correct forum where you may get some help.

Also explain a bit more what is happening.

The problem likely is with the SCART adapter. Someone else posted something useful about SCART recently in the forum. You might search for it.

Yes I recently did an apple upgrade for the 10.9. is their away to uninstall up grade? thanks

If you do Time Machine backups you start up your Mac holding down Command+R and get the Time Machine option to revert your Mac to an earlier OS. You'll lose anything that changed after your latest backup, though. At this point I don't know if the system update is a reason for the lost audio. Did you read the other recent post in the forum about getting the audio back?

Hi, thank you for responding. The sleep setting was 10 minutes and I changed it to 15. I don't think it went to sleep because I was watching while the recording was taking place. The recording was only 3 to 4 minutes in length, a song. Many things I record are much longer, like plays, etc. Your comment about the USB device being inserted after the program is launched is interesting. The instructions say nothing about that. I'll try what you suggest and let you know in another post.

I am having the same problem with Easy VHS to DVD for Mac (Rev E). I am running 10.7.5 on my Mac and for the first few transfers I had no problem after I figured out to not plug into the USB port before booting up the program. Now, the transfer goes for 15-20 minutes and I lose audio. The frustrating thing is I don't know it because I can hear the audio for the entire transfer and only find out when I review the flattened movie. The small "transfer device" does get warm while it is in operation if that helps. Any more knowledge on why this is happening to users?

Hi Team,

Problem solved!

It is the S_Video connector to the Roxio Device that is faulty. I changed the SCART Adaptor Lead to one with a Composite Video Connector instead and it works perfectly.

However, the picture quality is no as good so I am going to ask Roxio to ship me a replacement Adaptor to replace the one with the faulty S-Video Adaptor.

I just hope that they will test it and prove that it is working before they send it.

Thanks for the help. It is much appreciated.

You may be on to something in mentioning the heat. My brother had a Dazzle brand video capture device that he had to put in the freezer before using because it would quit working when it got hot. Certainly the Roxio plugin device gets very warm and heat does cause electronics to fail. It could be yours is on the verge of failure. Maybe it will help if you place a fan near the stick to keep it cooler when it is encoding.

Sorry about the lack of information. I have a roxio easy VHS to DVD for Mac, p.n. 243100, REV; E. The device worked perfectly for the first two videos converted and then on the third transferred the video but about 1/2 way through the transfer, stopped transferring the sound. The fourth attempt yielded video but no sound. I called the company and a person from the call center recommended that I delete and reload the program, which I did. The first attempt to convert a VHS tape yielded video and sound at the start but about 1/2 way through, the sound was dropped.

My computer is a Mac OSX 10.8.5 with a 2.7ghz intel core i5 processor. Is there a problem in the software or the hardware of the device? Roxio was recommended by my Mac dealer.

I don't recall anyone having exactly that issue before. Is there any chance your Mac is going to sleep during the capture? You might try changing the Energy Saving settings in System Preferences. As long as you launch the application before inserting the USB device you shouldn't have this problem.
