Question

It took 8 hours to encode a 1 hr 20 min hd video of some bands I shot and it sort of played from my burner "samsung 506bb" but it would stop and skip quite often, but when I played it on a reg blu-ray player it plays the intro page but will not start the video. I started with a dvcpro hd 1080i video format to make a .mov file since that is the format it was shot in. DVD's work fine but blu-rays do not seem to. Any one got any tips or suggestions?

No tips or suggestions are even possible since you have not even bothered to tell us what program you are using.

Once you supply that information your topic can be moved to the correct forum.

This forum is for non-Roxio programs related topics.

Also tell us about 1) The manufacturer (name) of the blu ray discs, and 2) The make and model of your blu ray player and 3) What program did you use to play the blu ray disc ON YOUR Computer? 4) Did you use the 506 BB to play the video on your TV? 5) explain why you used the mov format.

Bottom line, we need a lot more information.

Sorry folks. I am using toast 11 pro. I used TDK-R 25 gig disks. I used toast player in extras to play back on my computer and and I used .mov file because when I use compressor in final cut it takes forever to encode it then it encodes it again anyway with toast which I don't really understand but those guy are less than useless in customer support at Roxio. And I guess I am in the wrong forum according to the guru dude, even tho it says Roxio community at the top of the page. So I guess someone needs to point me in the right direction there also. I hope I supplied enough info. Oh yea I use an Imac with version 10.6.8 and a samsung 506bb to burn the disk.

If you had looked at the Roxio Community you would have seen that it consists of dozens of different forums one of which is Toast 11. In any case, you topic has been moved to that forum and hopefully someone there will be able to help you.

I don't know why it didn't play on your Blu-ray player or why there was skipping using Roxio Video Player. I tried playing a HD video from a disc my brother sent on my recent iMac using the built-in drive and it stuttered during playback but it played fine when using an external USB optical drive. So maybe it's hard to say if the video itself has a problem.

You have Compressor. I suggest using it to create a HD MPEG 2 video. Then go to Toast's custom encoder settings window and change the format from MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 and select Never for Re-encoding. Since Compressor creates separate .m2v and .ac3 streams, drag only the .m2v to the Toast Video window. Toast will automatically include the audio stream or ask you to locate it.

Whenever I'm using Toast to do something requiring encoding I choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button. Then I burn the resulting .toast file to disc using the Image File setting in the Copy window. Maybe that will help.
