Roxio Toast 11 Pro Won't Encode Takes Hours And Hours

Wondering if someone could help me out. Last week my MacBook Pro had to be taken into apple and it ended up they put a new hard drive in.

 

I installed all my stuff onto a back up drive. After trying to download the 11.2 update the encoding is taking hours and hours to burn a movie to disk.

 

I am not sure what happened

Is there a way of uninstalling everything and re installing it again? I have read many ways but I don't want to mess it up.

 

Just wondering if anyone can help me.

Actually the reports of slow converting/burning are exactly what I have always encountered with Toast Titanium 11 (latest version and previous).

I have experienced time and time again it taking hours to convert/burn an M4V to a disk. As previously mentioned I now NEVER burn straight to DVD anymore - too many ruined DVDs when Toast screws up on the burn.

My hardware is a MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and I ONLY run Toast when I am converting/burning - otherwise it is even slower. What frustrates me is that I have used Apples advise which is to ONLY have the internal hard disk connected (no externals) since the system slows down to the speed of the slowest peripheral according to Apple. I have worked on this problem over and over and simply put Toast is excruciatingly slow and does not use the available resources such as all the CPUs that are open to it.

Your experience is not unusual if you ask me - somewhat disappointing - if only Handbrake could be used to burn DVDs since it is far far faster and takes advantage of the entire resources of the system to do it's job.

If you use Handbrake to create the MPEG 2 video file then Toast can use that to make a DVD without re-encoding. Go to to Toast's custom encoder settings window and choose Never Re-encode. That only works when the source is a MPEG 2 video that meets the specs for video DVD (or for Blu-ray if that is what you're trying to create). What Toast does in that case is a relatively quick multiplexing of the video instead of encoding.

It can take hours if what you're creating is a Blu-ray video disc but it shouldn't be that long for a regular video DVD. To uninstall Toast just drag the Toast 11 Titanium folder to the trash. There also are a Toast plist and prefs file in the User>Library>Preferences folder (the user library is accessed by holding down the option key when selecting the Go menu in the Finder), and the menu styles are in a Roxio folder in the root>Library>Application Support folder.
