I have been using Roxio Creator for many years ("Creator 2012" for roughly two years) and recently it began crashing whenever I try to do even the simplest video editing (e.g. joining two sequences or trimming a video.
I have remote servicing from both McAfee Saas and ASC Iobit – who have been unable to find any problem and suggest that I replace my (admittedly aging) 32 bit computer with a 64 bit machine and greater RAM.
I wonder if
1) this is a familiar problem with a possible solution; or
2) whether you would concur with the advice from McAfee Saas and ASC Iobit;
If so; can you suggest an appropriate replacement or what I should look for in a new computer to work well with Roxio Creator 12?
I have an 8 yr old HP: Media Center PC m7330n with an ATI Express 200 Series graphics on the motherboard. I have added the maximum additional RAM; replaced the audio board; and the second optical disk; and added two external hard drives.
It is running with Windows 7 (32bit) and I get periodic messages that the driver is out of date, but Saas and Iobit say that all drivers are “current”. They conclude that the video driver, 32 bit system and limited memory are causing the problem and simply suggest buying a new computer (from them of course).
I have removed as much as possible from the on-board hard disk, (I already store most of my material on two external hard drives), but the on-board memory is still roughly half full and Creator 12 continues to crash whenever I try to edit video (with either the "DVD" or "advanced edit" program).
Is this problem familiar? Would you agree that it is probably just an overloaded system? If so, can you suggest a replacement computer or characteristics that I should look for in a replacement? I do not usually do very fancy editing -- just cut and paste and trim; ending with burn to DVD; and very occasionally picture correction (color, brightness, contrast).
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,

How do you have your virtual memory set?
I don't know (or understand)
Do they understand it is a 32 bit program?
I think so because I made clear that it has been running on my 32 bit machine
How often do you remove programs that you don't use, remove temporary and junk files and defrag? Go to c/net t get some free tools.
Very frequently and they also repeated the cleaning routine
You problem may be caused by a registry cleaner as part of those programs. Do not use a registry cleaner Turn that off permanently.
That is part of the program and I'll turn it off -- thanks, Will "repair" renew the registry if that is the problem? That sounds promising!
Insert the program disc and select to repair the program with the antivirus OFF !

I'll try that and report back -- thanks.
