Videowave Freezes, Files Corrupt.

John Nudge

Question

Videowave frequently freezes and I lose work I haven't saved. Videowave will not work again until I restart my computer. Worse, after editing just a few videos, videowave freezes and, when restarted, cannot find my projects. When I check the folder, I find each project file has been split into two seperate files, neither of which is recognized by videowave. I have to uninstall, and then reinstall Roxio to have it work properly. Sometimes my files return, sometimes they're still split and useless. These problems are not unique to this computer (Windows 7, 64-bit), but haunt my laptop (Vista) as well. Why is the program becoming corrupted, or is it a problem inherent in the program?

Of course none of the problems you describe are "inherent in the program". What are your source videos, photos, etc? What formats? How long are the videos and your projects? What are you doing when it freezes?

What do you mean your project has been split into two separate files? You will have to explain that since I have never heard of something like that happening. Unless you mean that you have a dmsm and a dat file (as sknis mentions in hos post) which is of course what is supposed to happen when you save a project.

What are your system specs? Have you done any defragmenting of your hard drive? How much free space on your hard drive? You have supplied very little information to work with except posting the problems you are having.

Is one of the files a 'dat" file and the other a "dmsm" file ? The project is the dmsm file. The dat file can be used to refresh the preview of the project in the timeline. You need both.

What antivirus are you using? Is it set to ignore scanning anything already on your hard drive? Are you using a strong registry cleaner?.

Crashing and freezing unexpectedly is often a sign of the CPU overheating. Do you track that? Regardless, use a can of dry air, protect your eyes and blow out the dirt in your computer. It is continues, your power supply may be failing.

As Walt asks, please provide more information on your computer via a dxdiag evaluation. Follow these directions exactly (link)..
