Is There Any Way To Get A Menu When Burning A Customized Dvd?

Question

Hi all

Here's my dilemma. I want to back up some of my DVDs, and have the Video TS folder. However, I want to cut out some of the extra junk on the DVD (so I don't have to compress it as much), so I am going with the custom route so I can pick and choose which extras I want to keep on. However, since this is a TV show, I definitely still want the main menu so I can move between episodes easily. Is there any way to do this? I see no option re: having a menu once you opt for either a custom burn or a main video(s) burn. I feel like there must be some way to utilize the menu that is already in the Video TS folder, with the idea that I won't get a response on the burned DVD if I try to click any of the extras that I don't include when I burn it. For instance, I don't want any of the "deleted scenes" extras, but I would like the brief documentary extra they have on the DVD.

To get a menu you need to have Toast author a new VIDEO_TS folder. This is done by choose Video DVD as the format in the Toast Video window. Insert your source DVD (or place a VIDEO_TS folder on the Desktop). Go to the Toast Media Browser and choose the Video tab. Scroll down to see DVD. There you'll see the individual titles that are on the source DVD. Select and drag what you want to the main Toast window. Another window will open where you get to choose what you want as well as trim the start and end points of individual titles. When you have what you want click okay and those will be added to the main Toast window. Now you're ready to edit the menu text and select your menu style.

So...I'm a little unclear. If I've found the specific file that is the opening menu from the original DVD, is there no way to use that? Does customizing a DVD (i.e. cutting out a lot of the bloat on it when you back it up) mean you cannot use the original menu?

Right. The original menu is lost if you remove anything. Otherwise the menu would point to things that aren't there causing the disc to freeze.
