Roxio Doesn't Open - Split From Hijacked Dead Thread

Nozza

Question

Okay. I have a slightly different issue. I have a Windows 8.1 Toshiba notebook. The processor in an Intl Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz, 16GB of RAM, 64-bit OS, x64-based processor. The graphics card doesn't show up in my PC info, but it is 2GB. I got the Roxio GameCap HD Pro for Christmas and it has only worked partially so far. I use component cables connecting my Xbox 360 to the Roxio device, and component out to my TV. With that setup I can happily play Xbox on my little TV with no issues. The cable running from the device to my PC is not damaged in any way. The software on the CD starts up fine until I get to the screen that has the two buttons for "Capture" and "Edit & Share". When I click on "Capture" the orange "Loading" box appears for half a second then disappears. Nothing else happens. I have seen solutions recommending using the repair tool when booting up the CD which I have followed to the letter. Nothing has changed. Some other solutions would be great.

In a whole week I haven't managed to get around to doing the reinstall. For a few days I couldn't even find my installation disk but I'd left at my dad's place. I'm going to do the reinstall/repair today and I'll let you know how it goes.

I just tried what you recommended. I switched off all of my Norton Security stuff. The software took about 8 minutes to install, and then I turned my Norton Software back on. After rebooting, I opened the software, plugged in the device, and pressed the capture button. Again, the orange loading dialog opens, but disappears after a split second.

It could be that my physical setup is wrong. The device is the Roxio Gamecap HD Pro. I'm using AV cables, with the red and white cables plugged into the audio left and right ports. I have the yellow 'video' cables plugged into the green ports marked as 'y'. Could there be anything wrong with that?

I your first post you said you were using Component cables...

The Device is HD and Will not work if you use Composite cables.

The only time you have a Yellow RCA cable is with Composite...

But to be honest, I do not see how that would stop the load of the Capture software... Mine will load regardless of whether the RGC Device is plugged in or connected to any thing

My bad. I get mixed up with component and composite cables. The cable I use has two audio cables - one white and the other red. The third cable is yellow which I assume is video. I hope that makes things clearer.

Any other suggestions for how to get the software working. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

There is NO YELLOW CABLE in a Component bundle,EVER!!!

You are describing a Composite cable which will not work!

The ONLY setup that can work with an Xbox 360 is the one that Tony posted... no other choices

If you copied your software cd onto you HDD as I outlined and there were no errors, then No, little to no chance of a pressed disc being faulty.

The problem is in your PC, actually in the settings...

Best bet, download and save both the Software and the Drivers for your video card.

Use their software to uninstall the drivers and software.

Reboot and install the software using only the default settings!

I will also send a note to someone from Roxio to see if they have any suggestions ;)

I've been extremely busy the last few weeks, but I finally managed to go through that entire process. For the first time since I first registered, Roxio asked me to register an account for the software. Every other time I reinstalled, Roxio skipped that step. But again, I get the loading dialogue and nothing else.

I'm a games programmer myself, so I understand that not being able to solve a problem can be as galling for the developer as it is for the customer. The reason I got the device in the first place was to be able to record gameplay of Destiny which is coming out next month. As it stands, I can't return my device because I bought it online from some website based in China. If it comes to it, I'll buy a new Roxio device from JB Hi-Fi before the Destiny Beta starts.

The Repair is the ONLY fix...

A slightly more through method would be in order ;)

Follow it EXACTLY, add nothing, leave out nothing!

Unplug your RGC Device and put it aside until you are completely finished.

Download and install the
Uninstaller. Then run it in
Moderate Mode
to remove any traces of Roxio.

Then turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc.

Now insert your Roxio Disc.

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

When the Install competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

What do you mean by this "The software on the CD starts up fine"? Did you not install the program to your hard drive? If you are running the program there is no CD involved

Thanks. I have had issues with my original graphics driver, so I downloaded NVIDIA. I just checked my device manager and I looked at Display Adapters. There's two devices. One is called Intel® HD Graphics 4000. The other is NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M. I downloaded the NVIDIA because it's more powerful, and most of my programs run better on it. I wouldn't expect Roxio to be any different.

I did exactly as you suggested previously, so bottom line, are you telling me to uninstall and reboot, then reinstall with default settings, ALL of my video drivers and software?

I'm just a little worried because wouldn't completely uninstalling all the video software prevent it from displaying anything on the screen, effectively making my computer useless? or is there an inbuilt video driver in the OS?

I've been ridiculously busy the last few weeks. I barely had time to check my emails each day. This should definitely help me a lot. I had no idea about component cables. I simply thought I could use the standard AV cables from the Xbox 360 and plug them straight into the device. My mistake. However, this still doesn't solve my software issue where I can't open the capture panel.

I have good news. After installing (which took a few days because my brother's computer had some OS issues), we installed the software. On first startup, we got to the capture screen successfully. To make sure it really did work, I plugged in the device (strange that it only works in one of his USB points), and managed to get the signal from his game, which at the moment is Just Cause 2. The image comes up with a few milliseconds of delay from the TV screen. Because I haven't yet got the component cables, the image is black-and-white instead of colour. That's a simple problem I can fix by going to JB Hi-Fi next weekend. If I run into any more issues, I'll start another topic. You can add attempt on another PC to your list of solutions.

It's odd that my laptop won't run the software correctly. The laptop is only a year old. In any case, if things go according to plan, I might have an even better laptop in a few months. Thanks guys!

Well..... technically speaking you can use any wire with RCA connectors on the end. But in that case, YOU have to assure the connections are matched up!!!

Yes you are correct that this has nothing to do with software that will not start! The "cure" for that is outlined in post 2 ;)

Understand Busy!

Well, the 'cure' from post 2 doesn't work for me. If all else fails, should I request a replacement software disk or something? I don't want to ask for a refund because the hardware is good. I can't go to the retailer because my dad bought it online from a company in China.

One other variation on the install/repair methods that usually works in stuborn cases...

This is extensive, but it what I suggest...

(Add Nothing! - Skip Nothing!)

Unplug your RGC Device and put it aside until you are completely finished.

Download and install the
Uninstaller. Then run it in
Moderate Mode
to remove any traces of Roxio.

Create a New User Account with Administrator Privileges.

Turn OFF any A/V & Firewall.

Reboot and log on to that new account.

Copy your entire disc to a new folder on your HDD.

In that new folder, right click on Setup.exe and select Properties.

Under the Compatibility tab, make sure
nothing
is checked!

Right click Setup.exe and select Open.

Allow it to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio not Windows)

Use the Default Locations!

When the Install competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

See what that does for you ;)
