Does Toast 11 Author Blu-Ray Discs?

Mac C

Question

Hello, I presently own Toast 8 and successfully burned a blu-ray disc with it. However, when I put it in my blu-ray player it wouldn't play. I'm assuming Toast 8 is not able to author blu-ray discs, only create data discs. Is this correct? Furthermore, I looked into Toast 11 and found mixed information about whether it can author blu-ray discs or not. Most sites say it can not.

All I need to do is export my HD movies out of Avid or Final Cut Pro and author them onto a blu-ray disc with the option of menus, subtitles, chapters, etc. Is there a Roxio product that can do this on an apple computer? Is there some other product I need to be looking into?

Thanks for your help!

I don't think Toast can author a video disc with subtitles when Toast is doing the encoding. Toast has title and chapter menus. Blu-ray video menus are only viewable when played with a standalone Blu-ray player and not when played on a Mac. You can purchase Toast from Roxio where they have a 30-day refund policy if it isn't what you want. Roxio recently sent me an email promoting a $79.99 special for Toast Pro. Here is a link. I don't know if it is still valid.

Thank you, that's good to know. Can you tell me if it has more advanced "authoring" features like menus, subtitles, etc. kinda like the old DVD Studio Pro had?

Nothing advanced, certainly nowhere near DVD Studio Pro or even iDVD.. You have very limited menu options, and you can't even add chapter names. I've taken to editing my blu-rays with Mac software (iMovie) 6.03), making simple blu-ray bdmv folders, and then authoring them with PC software. Yes, an extra step that involves using the Apple Intermediate codec (1440 x 1080) rather than full 1920 x 1080), but at least you can create better menus.
