What Is The File Format For Video Captured Using Vhs To Dvd Plus3?

After a number of tries and many hours of trial and error with VHS to DVD Plus3 software I finally was able to capture several videos and saved them as projects. I still cannot get the product to work properly on my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop and my 14 day support code has run out. The product works on my Dell Dimension 4600 on XP Home edition SP3 but for some reason my Windows XP system won't recognize the external DVD burner I purchased for my VHS conversion project. The device does work on my laptop.

 

Can someone tell me in which file folder the software stores the video projects and what the file format suffix is? I'd like to save them to a flash drive and move them over to my laptop where I can use the external drive to burn them to a DVD. This project has been one frustrating problem after another.

Are the mpg files MPEG-1 or MPEG-2? Is there any compression involved? I just want to copy our family videos onto the computer (in the best format possible) and dump them into an external HD for archival, not to burn them onto a DVD. Thanks.

ALL mpg files are compressed... but EVD captures at 720 X 480 @ 8000 kbps + Audio.

 

There is the option to 'Archive' them in many different formats but you can never be better than what it started at

The videos you captured will have the extension mpg but they are not project files. Project files have the extension VHS but they are not video files.

Your captured video files will be located in the folder you specified under File/Preferences.

Are your trying to create a DVD playable on a DVD player or simply archive the captured video?

I'm trying to burn the files on to a DVD. I copied the MPG files over to my laptop and imported them into my video list. Then hit the burn button. I didn't see the file extension VHS when I found the saved files on my desktop. I only found the mpg ones and that's what I copied over to my laptop. Do I have to move files with the extension VHS for them to be able to burn onto a disk?

The mpg files are the actual video files which you want to burn to the DVD. The VHS file is the project file and contains no video at all but simply the instructions on how to "reload" the project in case you want to make some modifications. They are not really needed on the laptop since you will be creating a new project on your laptop.

 

You should of course try to figure out why your external writer does not work on the Dimension 4600 system.
