Bd - There Are No Files..

I've created 3 HDTV movies (.mov) using iMovie and used Toast 11 to create a top menu to select the desired movie and burn discs. The first time I did this, I experienced no difficulties. Everything worked perfectly. After making a few changes, I went through the process again. This time, the BD discs are not playable in three different players. A Panasonic BD player reports "There are no files in this folder." Yet, visually I can see there is something recorded. I never got any error messages in the burning process. My Mac Disk Utility is not reporting any problems. Any idea what might be wrong with these discs? Used the same stock in both cases.

I'm presuming you can play the discs on the Mac using Roxio Video Player (Toast Extras menu). So the problem is the disc directory being read by the Blu-ray players. I don't know why this happened. A couple things to try are to choose a burn speed other than Best and to create a disc image first and then burn from it using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window. If you want to run some tests, choose a short video clip and burn to DVD media instead of Blu-ray media. If that works try again with the Blu-ray media. You also may want to restart your Mac before you begin.

In case this makes a difference, I am not able to play these discs using the Roxio Video Player. The disc mounts on the desktop, but when I display the Open window in Roxio Video Player, the name of the disc is greyed out.

Okay. That's a problem. The BDMV file is corrupt in some way. If you choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the Burn button you'll get a .toast file on your hard drive. Selecting and mounting it with the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window will be just like you inserted a burned disc and it should play with Roxio Video Player. Assuming that all works, burning the disc from the Copy window should turn out okay.

I'll give it a try. Thanks. Would be nice to figure out what corrupted it in the first place, so I don't repeat the problem. One thing I forgot to mention is I do have a disc image of this recording already on my hard drive. Is it possible the disc image is corrupted? Is there a way to check this out before burning a Bd?

Yes, select it with the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window and choose Mount if it doesn't do that automatically. Then you should be able to access it with Roxio Video Player. Another easy way to mount .toast disc images is to control-click on the .toast file and choose Mount It from the contextual menu. You won't find that command in "Open with..."; it shows up on its own but you may need to select Services at the bottom of the contextual menu to see it.
