Did I Mess Up?

Gary MacDougall

Question

For years I had the Roxio Easy product and loved it for the purposes of keeping my photos on file and creating musical slideshows. My old computer recently died and I have acquired a lovely new Mac computer. In the process I lost my Roxio program. That was fine, I decided to go online and purpose a new one for Mac. Here is where I think I messed up, $100 badly as a matter of fact I purchased the Toast 11 product but I fear I should have purchased the Creator. So my question(s) are: did I buy the wrong product given what I want to do. And secondly, can I use Toast 11 to produce musical slideshows, etc. I have tried but am having trouble synching music with the number of images, etc.

Creator doesn't run on Macs. Toast does not do slide shows with audio. You say you spent $100 so I'm wondering if you bought Toast Pro. If so, it includes Fotomagico which does beautiful slide shows with audio. So does iMovie and iPhoto which are included with your Mac. These all are the videos from stills which then can be authored to a video DVD by Toast. If you are wanting the older DVD slide shows where each photo is a still frame for a fixed few seconds before advancing to another photo, Toast makes these without audio but there are a couple other apps for Mac that do include an audio track. Did you buy Toast as a download from Roxio? If so, did you buy the standard Toast or Toast Pro?

I purchased Toast 11 Titanium, which isn't the Pro so it means I am out of luck for the Fotomagico, which sounds like what I want. I want a program which allows me to match photos with music (and match the end of the music to the end of the slideshow, like Creator used to do so well). So it seems like I need to buy Fotomagico, which is another $100. It looks like I wasted my Toast 11 purchase. Oh well, live and learn unless the Roxio folks will let me upgrade to the Toast Pro, which as you say has Fotomagico.

If you bought Toast 11 from Roxio they have a 30-day refund policy. So maybe you can get a refund and then buy Toast Pro. You also can search macupdate.com for other slide show applications. Fotomagico is darn good, though.
