desmo907
I guess the new Media Player 11 got pushed to my PC. I am running a new Dell desktop with a Radeon X600 card and a digital widescren monitor set to 1280x800. I had been playing movies I had made in Roxio and others made in Movie Maker fine on this PC under the previous Media Player. Now it seems the movies (only those captured/created with Roxio) play with green horizonal lines across them. The movie made with Movie Maker play fine. Is this an anomoly of v. 11? Is there some setting I need to adjust? thx!
tbrewst
I had this problem with WMP10.Here's a qoute from another thread: "An update.I read a couple of forums that I got directed to from Microsofts site and saw where a couple of people solved problems with WMP 10 by installing the SLD Codec Pack.So I downloaded and installed and it took care of the problem in both WMP and Cineplayer. Neil,I tried the K Lite pack and it didn't solve the problems so I uninstalled that one and tried the SLD pack.I've done so much trying to fix this that I'm wondering now what I might have screwed up in the process.Guess I'll find out in the future.Might just be time for a reformat and clean install." You could also try uninstalling WMP11 and seeing if it will roll you back to WMP10.It did for me when I tried it and didn't like it.

Files played fine in PowerDVD but not in WMP. I had previously used codec paks. So, I uninstalled the pak codecs and just installed the ones I needed, one at a time. It worked. I think many times we tend to have too many codecs installed that we don't even need or use.
desmo907
Thx, I did try to find how to Uninstall V 11 but did not see it in the Programs or Control Panel. I'll look again. To be honest, I am not sure how I got updated - I loved Ver 9 (or was it 10).

To be honest, I am not sure how I got updated - I loved Ver 9 (or was it 10). Are you sure it's not in the Control Panel? It's near the bottom. I had it installed on 1 pc and was able to remove it thru the Control Panel. I still have it on another and it works great with my Creative Zen Micro Photo. Syncs music very fast. However, while more bloated than WMP9, I like it better than 10.
tbrewst
That's also where I deleted it from.Like paul says it's near the bottom with the rest of the Windows updates.I would think you would have had to download it as I"m pretty sure it's not on Windows Update yet,it's still in pre-release. tbrewst
I don't think autoupdates would give it to him. That's just a part of Windows Update and WMP11 is still in beta2.Even when it gets released it will be a software download not a Critical Update which is what autoupdates gives you. desmo907
Well this is very odd. I don't see it in the Add/Remove programs Control Panel. The only Windows-related thing is a Windows Installer 3.1. (after Wild Tangent and before Winnie the Pooh However when I checked the box "show updates" i see all the MS updates. I found Media Player 11 and Uninstalled (that rolled it back). I fired up a video again and it configured V 10 however I still have the green horizonal lines. What is odd is that the MWV movies I made with Roxio only have the lines. The WMV my niece made with Windows Movie Maker doesn't show the lines. Note though that all these files played fine weeks ago before v 11 mysteriously showed up. I am running the Media Center as well. When I try the videos (for my first time) in Media Center the Roxio created WMV are messed up (slow and sound is way off) however the WMV made with Movie Maker plays fine. I do have auto updates enabled and I never did install v. 11 (with Urge). Only I and my 3 year old access this PC thx

I seem to remember the same thing happening when I went from 9 to 10 beta. Either way, you got it off and are back to 10. Did you remove all your codecs and start fresh? Here's what mine looked like when I had the problem. Is this the same as what you are seeing?

I could not find info on how to uninstall and reinstall codecs. In the control panel under Add/Remove programs you should see them but the best way is right click My Computer, choose Properties, go to Device Manager then click on Sound, Video and device controllers and double click Video Codecs. Then the properties tab. Let me know what you have listed.

Beerman
I'm at a loss at what to suggest. Since these are made in Roxio, I'm going to assume it's a Roxio problem but, they play fine in other players. Can you give me the properties of the file that gives you this problem? jeanrosenfeld
To fully uninstall WMP11 and roll back to WMP 10, there are three components that have to be uuninstalled: Windows Media Player 11 Windows Media Format 11 Runtime Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0 They should all appear in add/remove. Depending on the version of WMP 11 (beta 1 or 2), they may appear in the list of Windows updates (check the box show updates) or as separate items. If you only uninstall the first item, you will have WMP10, but it may not function properly as it did before install of WMP 11.
desmo907
I had only removed "Windows Media Player 11". I did find "Windows Media Format 11 Runtime" and removed and restarted. Same problem. I do not see the "Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0" I only see "Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0.0 (Pre-Release 5348)" so I did not remove it. There are lots of Windows updates and for v. 10 as well. Should I maybe try to install v 11 again? Also, not sure why I am not receiving Email notifications of replies here (and it is not being blocked by my Spam filter). ugh!

I have received one in nine months don't count on it. Something is broke there! Go grab this free 1mb program (Gadwin PrintScreen 3.5)and use it like Paul posted the codec's above. http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ cdanteek

You should remove that third component to roll back to WMP10, that's the one I meant. I did not give the version as that depends on whether you had WMP 11 beta 1 or beta 2 (the current version). The info I gave came straight from the WMP11 FAQ http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...aq/default.mspx click on the installing the player link, then on the first Q: How do I uninstall the player.
