Downloading EMC9 with 7.5 running

Grampa Dave

Question

I received an email from Roxio the other day inviting me, as a registered user of EMC7, 7.5 & 8, to download the latest EMC9 at a cost of 79.99 CDN. I got this same offer when EMC8 first came out and I downloaded it at that time. I had nothing but problems with EMC8 so I removed it. I am under the understanding that EMC8 now runs very well with all of the updates and patches installed.

I would think that EMC9 would also run quite well???, so I am considering the download. However the info that I received does not tell me if this download upgrade requires that I have EMC7.5 or 8 installed for it to install. Nor does it tell me that I would be advised to remove all of the older versions from me PC prior to installing EMC9. I am presently running 7.5 and I am very happy with how it operates.

Can anyone answer these concerns before I go ahead and download EMC9 Suite - ESD UG/EM.

Thanks

Grampa Dave

The upgrade does not require any other version to be on your hard drive. When you start the install of version 9, it lists whatever previous versions you have on your computer, and if you want them to be removed, you have to put a check in the box to the left name of the version that you have on your computer. By default, any version that you have on your computer, will not be removed.

I had version 7.5 on my computer, installed version 9, and have had no problems with either version, so far.

You can leave version 7.5 installed. If you are planning to install v9, do not re-install v8. There seems to be some problems for some people. You might call Roxio and find out if they have a better offer for people that have version8. To answer if version 8 has to be installed when downloading v9 offer, it is my understanding that it does not. When you have Roxio on the line you might ask that question also.

Thanks for your reply Grampabruce and for yours as well Patty. You both have almost helped me make up my mind except for one small item.

When making a slideshow using DVDBuilder (not My DVD) in v9 Suite do you have the ability to add transitions randomly as was the case in v7.5??? V8 Suite had that function removed but was put into V8 Deluxe.

Grampabruce: I have been a Grampa for nine years, and have enjoyed every minute of it as I am sure you have by the looks of those two young ladies.

Thanks Again for your help.

You can add transitions randomly in v9.

When making a slideshow using DVDBuilder (not My DVD
) The way this sentence is structured, I am not quite sure what your meaning, of course there is no DVD Builder in v9, it is MyDVD, however, the answer is the same. .

I guess he meant random transition theme.

Hi Jess,

Oh I got that, it was referring to DVD Builder and v9 but I am sure he meant when he used random in v7.5 which would have been DVD Builder. :)

Grampa Dave, most have found it better to uninstall v8 before installing v9. Check the forum for the remarks concerning this.

Patty, I think what he meant by this is he uses DVD Builder in 7.5 as opposed to the "Create Slideshow" type choice on the Home page, which opens a liimited lite type version of an earlier Sonic MyDVD version. That app was added for 7.5 after the Sonic/Roxio merger.

Thanks Larry, I have never used that, so I didn't realize that MyDVD was there. When using v7.5, I always use videowave and then DVD Builder Thanks again for the clarification.

I wish new users understood that videowave is a far better way to put a project together with. I guess if they read the forum long enough they will get to know that. :)

You are welcome. I have only been a Grandpa for 10 years, so you aren't far behind. The shock of the phone call, from my son, when I first became a Grandpa, was overwhelming. I did not know if I was happy or not, until I first held my grandaughter. I have enjoyed every minute since then. :)

I have 4 grandkids. Only one is a grandson.
