PMicrosoft icture It compatibility

roxnrolls

Question

I have edited a still (jpg) picture in Microsoft Picture It program and saved the edited picture in a file for use in a VideoWave production. The thing is, it will not go into the Timeline or Storyboard. It shows in the upper right window but when you try to drag it down the cursor turn into a circle with a line through it and the picture will not drop. It is still a "jpg" but has some devilish feature that Roxio shuns! Any suggestions (besides staying out of Picture It)?

As alway, Thank You!

The following suggestion are in referrence to Microsoft Digital Imiging Suite, but may be the same answer for Picture It.

Checked with others and here is one suggestion.............

"I have gotten around the problem in one of two ways, either saved the picture as a png file in MDI or open Photosuite and then save the picture as a jpeg using a different name."

So if your having to edit the photo, save it as .png instead of .jpeg and see if that doesn't work. I will still try to report it and see what I can find out from Roxio.

Here is another comment ...............

I do not understand this entirely, but some editing functions in Microsoft Digital imaging Suite, (and Picture It) add something called EXIF data (I think that is what it is called) to the file. Videowave apparently does not like that data and will not accept the file. I use MDI and have had that happen on occasion, but not often. I have not been able to figure out which of the editing functions causes a problem, but most of them do not for me because I have very few of the pictures not accepted. I have gotten around the problem in one of two ways, either saved the picture as a png file in MDI or open Photosuite and then save the picture as a jpeg using a different name.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Patty! Basically, your suggestion worked out for me, (I found I could not open it in PhotoSuit but I could open it "Paint" and then merely do a "Save as...") so I did get VideoWave to accept it just fine. You get the cigar and I get what I wanted. Next thing I need is some reading on cropping and resizing jpegs. I end up with black strips at the sides, or top and bottom or people that are T-A-L-L and S-K-I-N-N-Y or short and fat. I just don't get it! Fortunately there are guys here at work who know all about stills so I'm sure one or more can give me a short course at lunch.

You need to crop your images to the format of the screen. The standard screen is a 4x3 ratio. Look in your image editing application to see if it allows you to set a fixed ratio for cropping. I use ULead's Photo Impact, and you can set it to several "standard" ratios, 4x3, 4x6, 3.5x5, 5x7, 8x10, etc. as well as allowing you to enter a custom ratio. So, for slide shows, I crop all of the pictures using the 4x3 ratio since I'm not doing any widescreen (16x9) work. That'll get rid of the black bars.

Also, keep in mind that when displaying on a standard television, you won't see the very edges of your picture, so you'll want to turn on viewing the "save area" in VideoWave. That will give you a close approximation of what will be cut off. Important for pictures with details near the edges, or particularly if you're doing any captioning.

Hope that helps!

So glad it worked for you............. :)

You might try this tool, many have and recommend it. Click here. This does batches and you get to see the complete picture. If you are only doing a few you can use a color panel and put your picture in the overlay track, adjust the size to about 85%. This puts a frame around your picture. Be sure to use the internal overlay track.

THANK ALL FOR THE INFORMATION. I AM THINKING ABOUT DOWNLOADING THE RECOMMENDED CROPING/RESIZING SOFTWARE BUT ACTUALLY, IN MY OWN CLUDGED UP METHOD I HAVE SUCCEEDE IN ACHIEVING WHAT I WANTED. I TAKE NOTE OF THE SIZE OF THE ORIGINAL (IN PIXELS), CROP THE PISTURE AS NEEDED AND THEN RESIZE THE FINISHED PRODUCT TO THAT OF THE ORIGINAL.

I BELIEVE THAT ROXIO IS ABOUT AS GOOD A PRODUCT AS ANY BUT FOR SURE THIS IS THE BEST FORUM ANYWHERE ON THE WEB. THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!
