mvdeo
Storyboard freezes every time, after just a few minutes of use. I am using EMC 7.5 on a Dell 3.2Mhz with 1G of Ram and 250Mb of HD. The graphics card is a Radeon X300/X550 Series with the latest driver. All suggestions welcomed. IanFiander
Thank you so much for the Norton tip. Switching off that function seems to have cured the freezing problem with my EMC 7 without having to reinstall. Ian
Guest mlpasley
I am using EMC7.0. I have AMD 4400MHZ, 2G RAM, 7800 PCIexpress w/256Mb, WinXP, A8N-SLI Deluxe. On my machine, Storyboard freezes as above, and VideoWave acts exactly the same.....freezes after just adding a few pictures and cannot restart without rebooting the machine. Don't really want to continue using this program with these results. Sometimes this happens because of the way Windows handles memory. Try going to the Windows Control Panel\ System\ Advanced\ Performance settings and choose Adjust for best performance. Also make certain that your Virtual memory settings are set to your RAM as minimum and 2X your RAM and max.
PattiWagen
My computr was doing the exact same thing which I reported the other day. I will follow the instructions in this post. I hope that fixes it.
Vidmanjohn
Vidmanjohn,You need to check to see what your exact build # is. Open up any of the apps and go to Help -> About and see what the build number is. If it starts with 7.0. then you need to update your version. If it starts with 7.1, then list what it is exactly, like 7.1.1.189 Newest update for download version is only 7.0.430 and that is what I have. PattiWagen
mvdeo, I was having a similar problem with EMC 9 (both MyDVD and VideoWave). I went thru all kinds of gyrations to try and resolve the problem. Here are a few suggestions (and I'm not sure which one really did the most good): defrag, took off the jukebox and MS Media Player from the Quick Launch and closed a few other programs on the Taskbar. I also blocked traffic and then turned off AV. Also ordered MyDVD5 and read through that for helpful hints that might still be useful in EMC 9. Than I went out and purchased 2GB of RAM and put it in. I set the places I wanted the program to save my files. I changed the Setting menu in the Add New Movie so that it would not try to update itself all the time with every file that is on my computer. Even with all this I still have to wait quite a while for processes to happen in MyDVD9. I call up the Windows Task Manager and many times it shows that MyDVD is "not responding". Well I go away from the computer and do something else for a while and when I come back, the process is completed. There are also times that I get real upset and have to close the program using the Task manager. When it is working, it's a great program. Anyone know if this problem exists in Roxio EMC 9? Larry
Newest update for download version is only 7.0.430 and that is what I have. For the ESD (download version) you need to re-download the entire oackage in oder to get to the latest version of 7.1.1.189Info on doing that should be in the email you recieved when you bought the product. PattiWagen
My computr was doing the exact same thing which I reported the other day. I will follow the instructions in this post. I hope that fixes it. I installed the lateest version on top of 7.5 and ended up with build 7.5.2.49ENU. During the install I got a message "1607 unable to install install shield scripting runtime". The install continued, asked me to reboot, and EMC came up with the new version. I added some video clips I had already downloaded and then some still picutes, and it froze. The task manager did not show any problems with system resources. I had to reboot the computer to get video wave to come up again. I can buy version 9, but don't want to waste my money if it has the same problems. BTW I am running Norton internet security, if that makes any difference. grandpabruce
Anyone know if this problem exists in Roxio EMC 9? If you computer is freezing with EMC 7, it sure isn't going to get better in EMC 9. It is not a problem with the software. It is a problem with the computer that needs to be diagnosed and fixed. Guest mlpasley
Anyone know if this problem exists in Roxio EMC 9? EMC 9 is probably not going to solve the problem because it uses MORE computer resources, not less. Have you tried doing a File\ Save after you add a few files? I know that sounds like a simplistic solution, but it sometimes does help. Sometimes it can 'appear' to freeze while it's generating a preview file, and the longer your production becomes, the longer it will take to generate the preview file. Here is what I did -- don't know if these actions fixed it or not. I couldn't get system restore to work, and I did the following to get it to work. I got this information from an XP newsgroup. To turn off Symantec Resource Protection and run Windows System Restore again 1. Start your Norton program. 2. Click Options. 3. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus. 4. In the left pane, click Miscellaneous. 5. In the right pane, uncheck Turn protection on for my Symantec protect. 6. Click OK. 7. Run Windows System Restore again. When the system is restored, go on to the next section. To turn on Symantec Resource Protection (I actually did this after creating the movie) 1. Start your Norton program. 2. Click Options. 3. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus. 4. In the left pane, click Miscellaneous. 5. In the right pane, check Turn protection on for my Symantec protect. 6. Click OK. You must repeat each of these procedures any time that you run Windows System Restore. After I ran system restore, I had to reinstall software including EME7.5 from the box and then the update from the net. I turned off Norton Internet Security during this process and turned it back on afterward. I ran EMC7.5 and created the movie I wanted to make. Is it possible NOrton is causing the problem? I did these steps 1. Start your Norton program. 2. Click Options. 3. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus. 4. In the left pane, click Miscellaneous. 5. In the right pane, check Turn protection on for my Symantec protect. 6. Click OK. And then ran EMC7.5 again with no problems.

It's good to see you got things working, and YES, it is very possible that Norton was the cause of your problems. It has been known to cause issues during installs and uninstalls of software, as you discovered by having to turn it off to do a system restore. Likely, it caused your install not to complete properly, thus causing you issues. By re-installing it with Norton turned off, it was able to complete properly and that is why it would now be working. Just for future reference, anytime you are going to install or uninstall something, turn it off.

Are you starting out using DVD Builder? If I'm not mistaken, when you do an 'advanced edit' in DVD Builder, StoryBoard opens. Frankly, I've not been very successful using that method. You need to do your editing in VideoWave. There's a note at the top of this board as to how to get your production from DVD Builder to VideoWave. Please let me know if I've misunderstood your question.
