i was just attempting to upload a dmsm onto youtube and it stopped me because it said it was unsupported. how can i convert this file type?

A .dmsm file is a file saved in VideoWave. It is not a video file. You need to open that file in VideoWave, and export it, as whatever video file YouTube will take.
