Best Video Capture Quality From Vhs

survivor

Question

Hello folks,

This seems like it should be a bit easier to find, and I have looked within Creator 2010's help file and learning center, and here in the forums, but can't seem to find the answer to what should be readily available information. Which is better recording/capturing quality from VHS to DVD, DV or DVHQ? One might think it would be DV, considering it's at the top, but you know, in the software world things aren't always what they seem to be.

If you are going to capture in DV quality, select DV-HQ. That is high quality. You will need a lot of hard disk space.

If you have issues with disk space but have a pretty good computer, capture in mpg2. If you plan to burn to disc, that is the compressed format that will be on a DVD -- with a VOB extension.

Interesting in that I only have DVD options (3) or VCD. Are you trying to capture 4 by 3 or 16 by 9.

What capture device are you using?

I am using a standard vcr, one that doesn't even have s-video output, just rca plugs. As far as I know, all capturing is done in 4:3, these are old tapes. The thing is, I have these options to choose from, DV, DVHQ, then it goes down from there to what looks like standard VHS speeds like ep and sp. DV is the TOP and default option, DVHQ mpeg-2 8 mbps is second. That is where the question lies, for standard copying, which would be better?
