Toast Dvd Fails During Burning

Hi there-I hope someone can help with this problem since as it stands, the app is unusable to me. I purchased the Toast DVD app in May and used it successfully many times with my 2011 MBP, using Mountain Lion. I bought an new MBP last month and now Toast crashes every time I try to burn a dvd. It goes through the motions but fails before finishing. The only differences are I am now using an external DVD drive to burn since my new MBP doesn't have a DVD drive and I'm using Mavericks.

 

It's really frustrating and I'm hoping someone has a fix or a suggestion for me? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

I don't have Toast DVD. Does it have an option to Save as Disc Image in the File menu? When you say it fails before finishing does it actually start writing to the disc? If not, the drive may be sleeping while waiting for Toast to finish encoding. Toast won't wake up a sleeping drive. Let me know more and I may be able to help.
